The Last Stand 2026 has come and gone, and what a weekend it was. This was a match for the ages. The weather delivered in a big way all week: cool mornings, comfortable afternoons, low humidity, and just enough cloud cover to keep the sun honest. A steady breeze carried us through every stage and right into the shootoff Saturday afternoon. If you ordered perfect shooting weather, this is what you would get. Side match day brought out 150+ shooters, far surpassing last year's numbers. We had 213 shooters start the Main Match with 25 states represented, stretching from Maine to the north and Utah to the west. Behind Florida, Ohio brought the most out-of-state shooters with 16. Indiana followed with 13, then a two-way tie for fourth between South Carolina and Georgia, each bringing 12, and a three-way tie for sixth between Alabama, Michigan, and North Carolina, all with 10 shooters. The CAS community showed up, and they showed out. Friday Casino Night was packed. My rough attempt at a headcount fell apart somewhere around 130 people. We gave out three prizes this year to the top three chip winners: Bond Arms Derringer – Diabla - $6400 in chips Ruger Super Wrangler – Jace the Ace - $4200 in chips Boot Knife – Santa Fe River Stan - $3750 in chips Congratulations to all the winners and to every player who bellied up to the tables for Casino Night. The smiles, the laughs, and the friendly trash talk were exactly what Friday night is all about. During side match awards, Outlaw Bullets, our Black Powder Mini-Match sponsor, gave out 10 gift certificates good for Black Powder bullets to the black powder side match participants won by: Chili Pepper Pete Big Iron Bohannon Whiskey Belle Lone Star John LaRue Holli Docaday Happy Shootzmore Stock Broker The Revenuer Santa Rosa Slinger We also gave prizes donated by Scarlett Darlin’ with Bullets by Scarlett, won by: Gunnby – Captain George Baylor’s book (autographed copy) Six Packin’ Jan – 1000 Federal Large Pistol Primers Missy Muggins – 1000 125gr .38 spc Bullets by Scarlett Col Cletus T Bass - 1000 125gr .38 spc Bullets by Scarlett Jace the Ace – 25 pounds of reclaimed shot Mean Mary - 25 pounds of reclaimed shot Dusty Deputy D – 500 120 gr .38 spc bullets donated by CSA Bullets Saturday, after the conclusion of the main match, we hosted an open shootoff with 36 total participants. The Men's bracket was won by Bush Ax Jack, and the Lady's bracket was won by Dueling Des. Then came the Sole Survivor round, and Dueling Des delivered a white-knuckle, come-from-behind win over Bush Ax Jack to take the title. If you missed it, check SASS Florida for the video. It was one for the highlight reel. Saturday evening brought the Costume Contest, and the creativity on display was outstanding. The entries were imaginative, detailed, and flat-out impressive. The judges told me they had some very tough choices picking the winners. You can find the results attached to this email. And then it was finally time for the awards banquet. We hosted 250+ guests in grand TLS style, and the generosity of this community was on full display. Mernickle donated a custom holster rig worth up to $600, won by JP Law. An anonymous donor gave a Stoeger coach gun, won by Riverview Rattler, who then turned around and donated the shotgun right back to the match so it could be raffled off with proceeds going to The Last Stand. That is cowboy spirit, plain and simple. Cahawba Kid kicked off the auction and the Stoeger was eventually purchased by Pops Corbin of Outlaw Bullets for a $400 donation. Lead Paint also donated 1000 .38 spc bullets for the middle of the pack award, won by Angie Oakley. We also recognized the Spirit of the Game winners from each posse with special award statues donated by Wiggley. These winners were: Posse 1 – Chili Pepper Pete Posse 2 – Brewman Posse 3 – Sheriff Mickey Posse 4 – Lead Paint Posse 5 – Little Iron Lucile Posse 6 – Jimmie Gunfighter Posse 7 – Mama Knows Best Posse 8 – Dogmeat Dad Posse 9 – Loxahatchee Dan Posse 10 – Arcadia Outlaw 🙏 Thanks to the Posse Every year we recognize an outstanding volunteer who goes the extra mile for The Last Stand, and this year's honoree earned every bit of it. Our winner was our midnight welder, out there fixing broken shotgun targets after the first day of the main match so we had enough to keep shooting Saturday. He drove most of the stakes for both parking lots and hung the caution tape. He was early each morning to direct traffic and be the first friendly face welcoming shooters to the range. And that barely scratches the surface of everything he contributed during preparation and match week. This year's TLS Top Hand was Rooster Ray, and no one deserved it more. Thank you, Ray, for the kind of hard work that makes this match possible. The Last Stand was blessed with many outstanding volunteers beyond The Committee who helped with everything from building props, to painting characters, stuffing mannequins, pitching in on workdays, painting canvases, manning side matches, and crafting awards, among many other contributions. We would like to recognize these tireless volunteers: Lady Lupine Deadly Sharpshooter Purdy Sharp Calico Carol Bradford’s Pepper Jack Independence Kid Realtree Santa Rosa Slinger Rocky Creek Shooter Sure Shot Shawanda Rooster Ray Moog Rooster Leadbelly A special thank you to our Posse Marshals: Santa Fe River Stan, Realtree, Riverview Rattler, Shelleen, Sixgun Seamus, Max Payne, Duke Skywalker, Appaloosa Amy, Amaduelist, and Rooster Ray. And thanks to their deputies: Dominator, Scarlett Darlin', Shiloh Red, Groundhog, Stone Creek Drifter, Fast Eddie, Tilly Two Spurs, Quaker Hill Bill, J.M. Brown, and Cowboy Jon. Every one of these folks kept the posses moving, the stages safe, and the shooters smiling. A big thanks to those volunteers who helped The Committee with setup: Runs With Scissors, Independence Kid, High Noon Henry, Cherokee Charlie, Riverview Rattler, Shiloh Red, and Rooster Ray. And thanks to those who stayed to tear down the range on Sunday: Realtree, Shiloh Red, Jane, Dang It Dan, Bucky Buckskin, Santa Fe River Stan, Tilly Two Spurs, Midwest Hale, Delta Glen, Arcadia Outlaw, Shelleen, and Marshal J.W. Stone. We could not have pulled off this match without every single one of these volunteers, and we are deeply grateful for their time, sweat, and dedication. 🎯 Florida State Category Champions We would like to congratulate all our Florida State Category Champions: Isabel Jewel – Lady B-Western Bogus Jim – Senior B-Western Shoulda Dun Gun – Cattle Baron Rocky Creek Shooter – Classic Cowboy Sure Shot Shawanda – Classic Cowgirl Jace the Ace - Buckaroo Cowboy Jon – Cowboy Midwest Hale – Cowgirl Realtree – Duelist Amaduelist – Cattle Baron Duelist Stoney Jackson – Elder Statesman Frontier Cartridge Duelist Lone Star John LaRue – Frontier Cartridge Duelist Six Packin’ Jan – Lady Duelist Shiloh Red – Silver Senior Duelist Lucky Luke Cottonwood – El Patron Polecat Joe – El Rey Dead Aim Dave – Elder Statesman Santa Fe River Stan – Forty-niner Blackjack Belle – Lady Forty-niner Chuluota’s Bad Hombre – Frontier Cartridge I.M. And after this weekend, I believe them. We invited everyone to Unleash Their Inner Villains, and y'all wore the black hats with style, grit, and dirty rotten intent. You showed John Q. Law and the innocent civilians exactly why they should fear the bad guys. From Curly Bill to Frank, from Blue Duck to Stockburn, we sowed our villainous oats and had a darned good time doing it. We hope to see everyone back next year with friends old and new. From all of us on The Last Stand Committee, thank you to every guest, vendor, sponsor, and volunteer who made this weekend one we will not soon forget. Until we see each other along the trail, travel safe, and tell your pards back home how much fun they missed. See y'all next year in Gainesville for The Last Stand 2027. Don’t wait to get registered because we are capping the match at 220 shooters, so if you wait too long, you may miss out. From the reviews we received last year, I ‘m predicting that we will fill up very fast! Our theme for 2026 is Unleash Your Inner Villain. So, if you have ever harbored a desire to be the villain while watching your favorite westerns, now is your time. Join me and the other outlaws and ne’er-do-wells and become the bad-guy for a weekend. It’s more fun than you may think! 2026 Schedule We’ve moved The Last Stand 2026 to the third week in March because of Easter being the first weekend in April next year. The 2026 dates are now March 19th-21st, 2026. We will have side matches on Thursday and a 10-stage two-day Main Match Friday and Saturday. Casino Night Because of popular demand, we are bringing back Friday night side match awards and Casino Night. But this year, it will be bigger and better. We have rented a bigger room and will have more tables for you to gamble on. And we are hoping for a better response to the RSVP request so we can be sure of having enough food this year. Be sure to watch your inbox and SASS Florida for the RSVP request once we get closer to game time. Host Hotel The Last Stand Committee has procured the same host hotel as last year. We will be hosting Side Match Awards, Casino Night, the Costume Contest, and the Saturday Awards Banquet at the host hotel. They have extended our special block rates to Wednesday night. Ask for "The Last Stand" when booking. If you need extra nights (outside of March 18th-20th) with the blocked rate, just call them and they will be happy to oblige. They gave us rates for Wednesday and Thursday nights of $129 and Friday and Saturday nights of $135. You can book by either calling the number below or following the link.
