Specifically Cheddite! I just became aware that I made a huge mistake while selling primers at EOT! If you bought a “pack” of 3000 Cheddite shotgun primers from me please contact me ASAP!! My count of what was in those packs was incorrect! I owe you some money! I’ll make good on it quick as I can! My apologies!! PS: I finally realized WHY this happened-the company I bought them from TOLD me there were 3k in a pack!! And I didn’t check for myself!

So I recently acquired a Uberti 1873 lever gun in 357. Barely Used in great shape. Love it. Anyway, today I did my usual “Ralphie from Christmas story” shoot imaginary bad guys in my bed room and noticed something wrong. The bolt was hanging up on the way back. The extractor gets hung up on the little dust cover doodad that the screw goes into. You have to physically push the extractor down for it to cycle all the way back. I’ve been cycling it like crazy for a week but haven’t shot it yet. Figured instead of dry firing, I’d just run snap caps. It doesn’t like snap caps. Won’t feed very well. I have a few dummy rounds that cycle like butter. Did the snap caps bend the extractor you think? I’ve got 2 new ones coming in the mail from Long Hunter. Any ideas from the lousy pics? I can put together an AR15 in my sleep but I’m new to the 73s. The brass elevator is out of the gun in the pics btw. Cheers!

Cast your bread upon the waters. I told you about Pete on the one side of us, he who helped me get that crated-up mower out of the trailer, helped me un-crate it and put it together. Tonight I spoke with the neighbor on the other side of me. When he's on vacation I give his yard a haircut and more often than not, I run the weed eater as well. Tonight he asked if my new mower wasn't working, and I admitted I'd burnt up the battery, over charging the little bitty thing (it's about 2/3 the size of a brick of .22 shorts!) He smiled a little and said he was cutting his tomorrow, he'd come over and cut mine at the same time and I said I'd take his kindness and thank him for it. I do hope my run of bad luck is over, but I am most grateful for the kind folk on either side of me!

The wise man profits from the mistakes of others. Be wise, my friends. You see, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing, and I know just enough to get in trouble, and I proved it. I read a great deal, on a wide variety of subjects, and my reading taught me that Unique powder can be used for light loads in a .45-70. This stuck me as interesting, but more reading cautioned me as it could be dangerous. Unique is a small volume powder and a .45-70 is a big volume case, and further reading indicated two malfunctions might occur: 1) A small volume of powder could fall away from the flash hole, the primer could drive fire over top the charge and not ignite it; and, 2) A small volume of powder could take a look at that bullet way forward in the case, yell "Bore obstruction!" and kaboom instead of pushing the bullet out the business end. Now I am not the brightest bulb in the chandelier and I will admit to certain superstitions: I think it bad luck to get a bullet stuck in the bore, and I think it very bad luck to have a kaboom right in front of my best eye. I therefore stole a roll of toilet paper. What's left of it is sitting on top of my drill press, waiting for my sinuses to attack me again (explains occaisional odd honking sounds in the basement) -- I folded a neat little square, pushed it down on the Unique as an over powder wad, then added more and a little more and when I test fired the loads, it looked like I'd been shooting chickens out of my rifle. Downy fluff and white shreds over an amazing number of square feet. I like shooting but cleaning up what looks like a peck basket of downy feathers blown over several square decimeters of manicured grass is not what I planned on. I've given up on tissue and gone to a single over powder wad to hold the propellant down on the touch hole, and filled the void with corn meal. Now I benefit the local ecology. Ants happily eat corn meal. Birds and meeces happily eat ants and corn meal. Feathered raptors and foxes eat meeces. I can see it now, the new advertising slogan: "Sharps Rifles, good for the environment!"
