I looked at one of these the other day at a LGS, I could get a really good deal on it. I know there's been other threads about the quality issues but this rifle felt pretty nice. It was kinda stiff, but I'm sure it can be smoothed out. It says 9 shot magazine, would it hold 10 .38's? Hmmm...thinking about it. https://www.marlinfirearms.com/lever-action/model-1894/model-1894c

The 38 spl brass I like best to reload is yellow brass R P. When I look to buy new brass I don't find any. Anyone know why? Or am I looking in the wrong places? Thanks Bullett 19707

HOWDY. Just left the store and they had a NEW Winchester 73 carbine in 38/357. How are they out of the box for CAS shooting? Do you need to do much to get them up to speed for the average shooter?

Alright, so I went and observed my first match yesterday. It was pretty great and honestly looked like an amazing time. I didn’t get a chance to shoot but I’ve now decided to get into Cowboy Action Shooting. Only here is the thing, what do I do now? What’s the next step? I’m going to get a SASS membership but where do I go from there? Do I gets guns first? Clothing? I’m not ready to buy any pistols yet purely because I’ve not shot any cowboy revolvers. There won’t be any more matches around me for a few months so I have some time but I’m at a loss at where to begin. Advice?

Hello Fellow Forum Users, My name is Joe, and I just tonight joined the website. I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of starting equipment. If at all possible I was wondering if I could have your input generating a list of weapons in the following categories: -Economic/ Starter -High End -Money is not an issue I already own a vaquero in 357, I would be looking to get another revolver so please list them as well. Another thing I should mention is that I am wrong-handed. If you guys could also let me know where to get a rig for the revolvers that would be great. I had something in the mind of a double left handed belt (left hand holster on each side). Any and all advice will be taken seriously. Thanks guys!

Hello all, Just a note to people who, like me, perhaps, shoot dualist, double duelist, or gunfighter. I am not petite, yet I found it a bit difficult/uncomfortable to reach for the hammers with my thumb with one hand only, so I bought two Blackhawk hammers from Jim Bowie http://cowboysandindianstore.com/ and put them in. I watched 2 online videos, YouTube, to help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU8E2EC7X68 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgK2aM8EbLM It took me an hour and twenty minutes, but it was my first time, and it worked so well, that I put my little 1/8 slot screwdriver and the little punch I used in my cart. The net result is the lower Blackhawk hammer is easier for me to reach and pull. Thanks Jim. Aunt Jen

For a while now I have wanted to get into shooting competitively and everything that goes along with such a massive endeavor but from talking to local shooters and reading online I had found that manny competitions and competitors were rude, elitist, and just plane not cool. Everything changed when I happened on a youtube video tagged SASS where a guy walked through “Trouble Town” at the Texas Troublemakers Club showing some of the people, the costumes, and of course the guns.
Suddenly I found my heart was racing as a spark lit my eye, this was it! This style of competitive shooting didn't require I spend two thousand on a gun, plus spare mags, plus hundreds of rounds of ammo for every event, and best of all the people seemed laid back and there for a few laughs and a holism good time. In other words I was hooked on the idea of cowboy action shooting. Now this wasn't just a passing infatuation, I've always been a junky for everything pre 1899, I’d get all dressed up and go to the civil war reenactment then get all the other kids to participate in mock battles and quickdraw competitions with our cap-guns. My favorite tv shows were Have Gun- Will Travel and Rawhide. 
I first went shooting with my dad when I was ten and from that day forward I was determined to be the best, eight years later that fire hasn't died down one bit. I recently acquired my first real Cowboy Action gun, a used Armi Jager Dakota .45 and I am now determined to compete in this sport that doesn't require awkward semi autos with complex mechanics, optics that cost more than your gun, or the constant reloading of high capacity magazines. So to finally get to the point, I would greatly appreciate any advise, tips and ticks, or knowledge that you great people can pass on. 
Specifically help on good places I can go to shoot (I live at least two and a half hours away form all shooting ranges), the best way to acquire gun leather, how to set up a range that will help me train for CAS, and ways to acquire used reloading gear. I’m looking for a coach gun in ether 12 or 20 gauge for $300 or under, and a 45lc lever gun for under $500, let me know if there are any brands or specific models that fit this bill.

Howdy Everyone, I have been shooting skeet for the past nine years and have recently made the switch to SASS and the world of cowboy action shooting. I like to reload so I can save money to shoot more and that naturally carried over. I got my pistols and rifle in .38 special. So my first question is what type of reloader is best for CAS? Dillon seems to be popular on the forum, but someone at my local club had all of the primers go off in his face off of a Dillon. I do not know if this was a fluke or a common occurrence, but I do not want primers going off in my face. My second question is what is an affordable brand of ammo I can buy that can be reloaded numerous times? I know for skeet the AA's by winchester were the best to reload with and I did not know if there was a similar type brass for the .38's. My third and final question is what type of powder and what grain bullet work best for the .38's for competition? I know everyone has their own preferences, but I was thinking a 125 grain bullet with a light powder charge. I know I have to meet the force factor lined out in the SASS handbook, but if anyone has a magic light load recipe please share. Thank you in advance for any and all advice. Sincerely, Skeet Horton
