This is a long read. But I put it here because it involves the court system being circumvented. We have several SASS members that are attorneys, and a good number of non attorneys who exhibit critical thinking skills that may appreciate the work by this author. What is disturbing is that this has been going on since 2009, and is only recently being challenged. This is a two part article and both links are posted. And herein lies the rub, gents (and ladies). Illinois will pass gun laws that affect people who have done nothing wrong, and allow the ones that do break the law a free pass. Caution: This is probably one of the most nauseating articles I have read. The "poor" people standing before a judge getting a bail amount that is unaffordable. But, what did they do to get here, and how many times before did they do it? You don't see those questions. No mention of the victims of the crimes, at all. I do miss reading some of the more colorful names of arrestees on booking summaries. So who are his parents? Siblings? The jokes just write themselves.

It appears that Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx has a good thing going. She drops charges on violent felons. The felons file lawsuits for false arrest against the police and hire a high powered law firm, looking for a settlement (which happens more often than not).
