Please feel free to trot this one out when some pearl clutcher is demanding "enhanced" background checks for gun purchases/owners. Pre-trial release for a gun crime (which I still can't wrap my head around) so the suspect can commit ANOTHER gun crime. But we need more background checks, license fees, mandatory training, ad nauseum. Also click on the link about the "not horrible" stories just above the chart in the article. This is where the stupidity is palpable. 90 charged with murder at home on ankle monitors, and 40 charged with attempted murder. It appears that Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx has a good thing going. She drops charges on violent felons. The felons file lawsuits for false arrest against the police and hire a high powered law firm, looking for a settlement (which happens more often than not). When you have a dysfunctional justice system that lets offenders sign out of jail, get probation, and commit further crimes, what is the answer? I know, let's push for more background checks and fingerprint all gun owners in Illinois. Here in the Land of Oz, you can threaten a family member with a stolen gun, have the entire incident caught on video tape, and not put up a dime for your own bail.
