I recently picked up an old Belgian made British Bulldog, made pre 1898. It seems to be in good shape overall, despite missing the trigger return spring. (That's probably a whole other thread right there!) Neither I nor the seller know the caliber though. He said it's .44 or .45, but didn't know much else. Can anyone give me an idea of what caliber these dimensions would suggest? OAL of Cylinder: 1.3135 in, but there's a black ring a little further forward than half, on the inside, so I imagine the cartridge was considerably shorter. Interior of Chambers: .45 to .4520 in. Rebated area for case rim: .4995 to .5165 in Bbl- groove to groove: .4135 in Bbl- land to land: .4035 in Any direction on this would be appreciated. I'm not even sure what calibers these were offered in.
