OK so I've decided it's time for me to start reloading my own shotgun shells as both the wife and I are shooting more matches every year. I've been doing some research but since I'm new to shotgun reloading I thought I would start here and get some advice from people that have been doing this for a while. I have many questions.... 1 - What press is good for reloading 12 gauge without breaking the bank? Between the two of us we probably shoot about 6 cases of shells a year. 2 - What is the best shot size for our sport? I currently use 7.5. 3 - What powder do you use? Do you load at the minimum end of the load specs? 4 - What shell cases hold up best to reloading - how many times can you reload them? 5 - Does the wad choice matter much? As long as the size is correct, is one better than the other for our sport? 6 - Does the primer brand matter or is any 209 acceptable? Finally, what are some good places to purchase the above supplies? Thanks for any input you have!! Star Shooter

I was curious if anyone has been using (or has tried) these Federal Top Gun 12 Gauge Metro Loads (shotshells) with any success?? They are advertised as 1 1/8 - 7 1/2 at 900fps. I have (searched and) found some good reports from 97 users. I am brand new to reloading and have a MEC Jr shotshell reloaded. At the last match my wife was talking about her shoulder starting to bruise from the shotgun recoil, when someone offered her to try their "light load" 12 gauge shells. She really liked the difference in recoil, so I thought I would give it a try. I have a Lyman reloading manual, but it doesn't say anything about cowboy loads, and I have a #29 powder bushing in the MEC. I'm looking for insight into what bushing to use in the MEC and if there is a good Cowboy reloading manual I could purchase. Thanks, Dabster Dave

I'm trying to replace (rather than have repaired) the damaged 3-hole, short-tube Action Slide (part #15) on an early (ca. 1898), 12-Gauge, "C" series, solid frame Win97. The shotgun is in good shape, other than this damaged Action Slide. --- Does anyone know if there's a physical difference between the Action Slide from a solid frame vs. one from a take-down version? Such as, maybe the length of the "arm" of the Action Slide? --- Where may I obtain replacements for the metal inserts (escutcheons) for the forend wood, or Action Slide Handle? --- Also, is there a template available to drill and tap the receiver for the installations of the familiar Ejector Spring and Ejector Spring Screw (part #'s. 52 & 53)? The very early 97's do not have the Ejector Spring. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Last match that I shot my Stoeger Couch Gun the right firing pin stuck and would not retract. Not being much of a gunsmith I took it in today to Cowboy and Indian Store to have Jim Bowie look at it. I thought I was just dropping it off and would pick it up sometime next week. Instead he fixed it while I was waiting. He got it up and running again and only charged me $20.00!
