  1. Like Coffinmaker said. 45 works. Only thing I would add is when I anneal i heat them orange which I'm sure someone with say is to much and then I drop them into ice water which makes the cases even more soft. Cases last forever and I don't get fouling blow by . For hunting. What you hunting? I've shot junk like Jack rabbits. My gun has big sure hit front site . Not very good sights for any distance. For hunting big game I wouldn't mess with pistol calibers. About barrel length. Mine is heavy barrel 2 0" There is a guy at our club called South West Trapper. He is amazing with a rifle. He shoots a lightweight 19 or 20" regular carbine. It's a 45 to.
  2. A 357 magnum you could load with 180 grain cast bullets so sort of like a 30-30 loaded with cast. This winter I've been putting alot of lead through a old original 1894 in 30wcf. Out to 200yards it's no problem. Past that things get worse. The whole minute of angle thing doesn't work out at longer ranges out to 300yards. Different cast bullet diameters make big difference at longer ranges. 309 accurate out to 100yards but 311 helped alot out to 200yards. Same thing with powders. Faster sr4759 is great until you start shooting out past 150 yards. I tried all different powders and so far at 250 yards w748 shoots best. I think the bullet goes from sonic to sub sonic at longer ranges so farther the range the slower powders give more fps and range before dropping subsonic. That or the cast bullet just looses spin at longer ranges. I'm currently reaming out case necks to take 313" cast bullets. I'm hoping the fatter bullets and slower powders will allow me to keep 5 shots in 10 inch circle at 300yards. Also I live in a very windy area. These 30-30 bullets are alot like throwing a paper airplane in a cross wind. Barrel doesn't have best of rifling and is well worn on the muzzle from owners before me. But I know I can shoot better than this rifle is currently doing. I'm not shooting from a bench. Just sitting in a lawn chair holding two cattle walk sticks in my left hand. Sagebrush long shots make everything look so easy!
  3. Even if they could get it to work and I'm no expert or authority on this. It would be good for shooting another ship. But not good to use like traditional artillery. Example like in Vietnam War. So the rail gun Even if it existed and worked. It doesn't really serve a purpose. What Navy in the known universe would currently send a surface ship to challenge American Navy or Carrier Group. It's never going to happen.
  4. They are already back peddling a bit in your link about the rail gun. I expect the 6 inch armor to end up being a belt or maybe dropped all together. Well that’s what battleship New Jersey guy is saying. Actually he is saying if this does get built and he doesn’t really believe it will but if it does then it’s basically going to end up a missile cruiser like navy has been wanting for last 50 years. The name battleship is more about getting President on board.
  5. Cost of production and keeping oil companies profitable is a thing. Might be about keeping production off world market until needed. Example China and Russia not happy and most likely worried.
  6. No pun intended but who was pardoned south of equator is the elephant in the room.
  7. I haven't watched a John Wayne movie in decades. The two I remember liking the most was the cowboy's and rooster cogburn. I do drive a 1979 ford super cab which is close match to John Wayne's 78 except mine is in process of swapping out the 460 for a cummins
  8. About a year ago I guess. I was looking for NM3 part. I wasted a month researching. Reading in different forums. Trying to track down names. What I found was basically the guys who used to be into Smith and Wessons. Working on them and places that had parts. Well they are either no longer with us or out of business. The places that advertised parts didn't have them. That's the tough thing about those old S&W. Parts! On full size reproductions. Uberti is different than original. I needed a hand and I made the Uberti hand fit but it took two days of filing and I still had to get some of it tig welded. The Uberti part was to big in most places and to small in others. Had to keep filling and trying the part by assembling everything. There was one outfit that advertised that he would make S&W parts and fit them in your gun but I can't remember the outfits name. They wouldn't deal with me because I'm in Canada.
  9. Before drug epidemic. Break ins not common like now. Years ago I lived kind of remote. No cell service. My place was next to public forestry. If someone broke down or got stuck and was walking out for help. If I wasn't home then the next phone was several miles so I used to leave house unlocked just so they could use my phone if needed. Everybody used to leave houses unlocked and keys in trucks. What I've noticed is when they break in now. They don't even check to see if door is locked. They kick it in even if not locked which sucks because now you have to buy a new door and casing. Plus all the work to install it.
  10. Man walked naked out of shower, found Mountie in his bedroom, lawsuit says https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/man-walked-naked-out-of-shower-found-mountie-in-his-bedroom-lawsuit-says-1.6965872
  11. I meant Iowas. There are 4 of them. New Jersey just out of dry dock looks fantastic. I'm not sure about the other three. It's pretty expensive to maintain these true battleships as museum ships. To bad they couldn't be put to work in some capacity. Even light duty. The last time the Iowas were brought back into service the cost of bringing one Iowa back was same cost as a new frigate. But the 16inch shells are all destroyed now. The powder apparently is to old as well. With the decision to build new heavy cruisers I'm thinking the Iowas are dead horse now.
  12. These guys whoever they really are. They give logic or reasons for the new Trump Cruisers.
  13. What I heard was the Ottawa liberal government had on their government website the address of colt Canada listed as disposal destination for their failed buyback which is soft name for government stealing private property from law abiding citizens.
  14. To bad Sheriff Joe Arpaio wasn't still in business. You could have been riding shotgun for him on chain gangs.
  15. In other militaries. Type of new purchased aircraft, ships, equipment. It's political and decision-making is done by politicians instead of people who are actually in the military. Even promotion in other militaries is not really based on performance of individuals as much as its about other things. Terrible way to do things. About huge targets I'm trying to remember the name. But in the 80s didn’t the American Navy try to sink one of their obsolete carriers? They used it for target practice. Shot cruise missiles into it. Because of the size and way the carrier was built. Took a lot over period of days to sink it. Kiroff cruisers that Ukrainians blew up only have splinter protection. No armor. On these Trump class ships. I'm seeing build cost estimates from 5 to 15 billion per ship. That's alot of bucks for a bang. Iowa could have been brought back for price of a new frigate.
