  1. It was good shooting with you, it startled me to when those BP shells went off. Lol
  2. I have used black powder in 45 colt, 357, and 44-40 rifles, I got the least amount of blow by from the 44-40. I tried annealing the 38, and 45 brass but still got blow by which dirtys up the action then they get hard to work. The thin neck of the 44-40 expands well and seals the chamber from blow by. My normal clean up on my 44-40s is open action, put funnel in barrel, pour hot water down, then run a Murphys oil rag down the barrel(50% Murphy oil 50%rubbing achahol), oil outside and done. Takes about 5 mins. 38s, and 45s I needed to disassemble the action.
  3. My wife bought me a taylors deluxe 73 for our anniversary. I sent it to Cody and I honestly have not been really happy with it. If you do not work the lever with force the lifter will get stuck and you have to either push it down or up by hand. I think my case is an oddity, because everyone has recommended cody. But that is my experience.
  4. They look great major thank you for all your work, Julie and I are really looking forward to it.
  5. So I have a IAB 1874 sharps, my son and I are having a hard time getting the set trigger to set, we are having to squeeze REALLY hard! Has anyone had this or know how to fix this? Thanks Slow poke
  6. Love my 44-40s, it is in my opinion the best cartridge for black powder. It's also just about as origami as you can get in cowboy action (as far as age). I even use mine to hunt with
  7. 1 beef 1 chicken for julie and I. That way we can try different stuff
  8. I use a marlin 336cb in 38-55 and a 1885 in 38-55. Their are some commercial loading for it hsm makes a cowboy load, winchester makes a jacketed soft point for hunting. They do get a bit pricey. I find brass is not to hard to find, dies and lead are as easy to. My reloads chamber better than the factory stuff. If you can find it 9.5 grains trail boss under a 249 grain head seem to hit well and don't kick.
  9. I run a lassiter with the 2 drop mod the mag tube is eliminated but as far as speed goes my son is pretty quick with his sxs, when he and I practice it is pretty evenly matched between him and I. For me personally I run my 87 not for speed but style points it's just a cool gun. I even got my 11 year old daughter running one and she really loves it over the 97, or sxs
