  2. My toaster has a warm setting which works great for drying shells. 25 minutes and they are dry.
  3. I have noticed with our lower loads my revolvers do shoot a bit low, but have not filed my front sights. When I miss it is because I shoot to the left not because I shoot low. To fix this I squeese the grip tighly and keep my shooting arm straight. For smaller targets like those on a plate rack I aim at the top of the targets instead of the middle. The reason I have not filed the front sights is that the targets can be at different distances, so filing the sights for a certain distance will not put the bullet in the middle time every time. Developing hand strength and holding the grip properly is more important.
  4. This piece brings up some interesting questions. First it is illegal to load six rounds in a shotgun in NJ, the shot gun needs to be modified with a plug to limit it to 5 rounds. Second, I have seen shooters load six in a shotgun and move with live shells in the gun instead of reloading at each position. What is the rule on moving and shooting like this?
  5. Thank you for bring this subject up. I have seen a number of times experienced shooters dump after getting a P and their buddies support their decision by saying, "You can get only one P".
  6. ook niceI started with a tube load Henry .357/.38 Spl. It is a nicely balanced rifle and it really does not take any longer to load than a side gate. It does shoot slower than my Winchester due to the Henry's long lever action. The Henry broke twice the first season, but I sent it to Henry free of charge for repair on Monday and got it back on Thursdaay each time so I did not lose any shooting days. It really is up to you what you would like to shoot with and if you would just like to shoot the rifles you have or if you are super competitive. Now I take my HENRY to three days matches as a backup to my Winchester incase something goes wrong, but so far nothing has. I have looked at the new HENRY side gates and they look and feel nice, and the action seems smoother, but I cannot speak for how they will hold up in heavy use.
  7. I was confused by this at first also, they are independent. You do not have to shoot a costume category. Recommended mimimum attire is a button down shirt, jeans, a period hat, and boots. If you choose to shoot a costume catagory it can be combined with an age and/or style of shooting catagory (in laymen terms: one handed, two handed, smokeless powder, black powder).
  8. Thank you Dunngannon Gunner for creating an updated Google map of all the current CAS clubs and Eliphalet R. Moderator for posting it here. For the first two years I participated in CAS, I shot at our local club only. But, this year, 2022, it was time to move on to experience different shooting scenarios and to increase practice time. This meant spending hours on Google maps typing in each club in the surrounding four states one at a time to establish which clubs were within 2 hours. The effort paid off, I shot almost every weekend and discussions with the different club members expanded my knowledge of CAS shooting, which resulted in a very good performance at our State Championship. The map you created makes visiting CAS clubs much easier! I also want to say I was warmly welcomed at each club I visited and am thankful for the information members shared about ammo, reloading, gun smiting, timing, etc. I would not have improved much if they had not taken the interest to share their knowledge with me - this is what makes CAS special!
