  1. I alternate cocking and shooting (cock left shoot right at the same time then switch). The only way to get good and fast at this is lots and lots of dry fire practice. Eventually you won't think about cocking at all (at least that's the goal).
  2. I recently bought HSM 325 gn 45 Colt +P ammo from the local Bass Pro Shop. I am shooting it out of my Henry Big Boy. It shoots just fine but due to the bullet sticking out .25" higher than a standard round of 45 colt, it does not like to feed from the tube. The only way I can shoot the ammo from the factory, is by single loading it through the ejection port. I bought it so that I can use it as a self-defense round while out camping and such. For all the reloaders out there who have far more experience than me, what's your opinion on reseating the bullet to standard depth. I reseated one and when I shook the bullet, I couldn't hear any of the smokeless powder bouncing around like I can on the normal bullets that I haven't messed with and I am not sure how much compression is happening if there is any. Is compression something I should worry about as a problem with smokeless powder (I understand that it's not needed but will it affect the pressure curve upon being fired if it is compressed)? I am mostly trying to avoid blowing myself up. If all else fails I at least bought some expensive brass.
  3. I am Selling a Wood Gun cart for $100.00. I am the second owner and this cart served me well. I recently upgraded and need to find a home for this puppy. It is well built by a furniture maker. This cart features 5-gun ports, an umbrella, a large ammo box at the base and a smaller toolbox up top. The wheels are solid rubber and very durable. For anyone wanting to get into CAS on a budget this is an excellent cart. The entire cart collapses into 5 pieces and can fit in the back seat of my Camry. I prefer face to face transaction and am willing to drive within the state of Arizona for delivery, however if you are an out of state pard, then shipping is on you.
  4. if you get shot gun chaps that zip from the top down, you could zip them down to above the knee and then they would be open on the lower leg. that way you could kinda do the best of both worlds situation.
  5. As a young person in the game, It would be wise to have both a Facebook page and an Instagram page (as most people my age are on Instagram). On my page on Instagram I see lots of reels (short videos for you fuds) of individual shooters and also cowboy mounted shooters. Things like that inspired me to join a year and a half ago.
  6. I'm in said Rio Salado gun club and would be interested in what you've got.
  7. My vote would be an 87. In my opinion, all things being equal with practice and being slicked up, an 87 is the best of both worlds between a double and a 97 with reload time, plus I just love the cha-chink of the lever.
  8. I recommend talking to some of the longtime shooters about technique (especially with the revolvers) and then practicing that technique with dry fire at home (always check that its unloaded first and then practice shooting at something you don't mind destroying anyways). Especially since you said you have Vaqueros it's fine to dryfire them, but you might consider finding some snap caps anyways. I would do the same with the rifle and shotguns (get some dummy round and practice loading and firing the shotguns).
  9. Can we do that out here on the west coast?
  10. It seems like the issues with the website were solved. Everything looked normal.
  11. I kinda figured out how to navigate but I can't checkout.
  12. vti looks like computer gibberish to me. I the website going through some issues?
  13. During my last match on Saturday, I lost the base pin screws and spring (the piece that holds the piece that holds the cylinder) (it's an Uberti Cattleman). Anyone by chance have an extra one of those that they are willing to sell me (especially if you're in the valley in AZ). Numrich has the screw nut and spring in stock but not the screw.
  14. Go to Boot Barn, they have one not far from EOT. They have a wide variety of hats so you can find one that fits well. you can easily find one under $200 that is good quality and even find decent ones for under $100. My Stetson from there was $140ish.
  15. I use Bang n Clang for my reloads at an OAL of 1.575 (taken from Hornady loading manual). I load 250 gn but they also have 200 gn. Its never failed me. Bang n Clang ships in both 500 and 1000 round bulk.
  16. I have been in SASS over a year now and have shot the HBB for every match since it is my one and only lever gun. I shoot the 45 colt round so I do not have any experience with 38 spl problems someone above mentioned, but it has served me well. I am not nearly as fast as some of the people who shoot with me, so I have not had problems with the feeding so far, however every once in a while, I don't throw the lever all the way and it is becoming more frequent that I short stroke the gun (all I do to fix this is I run the lever one extra time). After about a year and a half of shooting it seems like I am just barely starting to see the end of the Henry Big Boys capability, but I still have a while to go before I really start to outrun my gun. I have been really happy with the gun and have had no issues with the quality or craftsmanship of the gun. A few things to note though (not to discourage you from using the big boy), it is more complicated to take apart than a 73 or a 66 for a deep cleaning (that's just due to the way it was designed and won't happen that often anyways unless your extremely OCD with gun cleaning). One other thing that I didn't realize was illegal with the sport is you need to get rid of the white diamond on the rear sight that is common for all henrys (the easy fix is just turning that plate with the diamond around). I am willing to be adopted if you're looking to give it away.
  17. Is there also a website for the match or is it old school paper to apply? Also, is there still room on Saturday for me?
  18. This is also the reason why rifles with revolving cylinders fell out of fashion (this design predates lever actions).
  19. I've decided to keep it the way it is. Thank you all for your input, but damn... y'all are split 50/50.
  20. I have a Model 97 shotgun that I got recently. Based on the serial number it was manufactured in the year 1900. Its in great condition as far as I can tell (down to the checkering on the hammer being pristine) Minus the finish coming off revealing a fantastic patina, and it shoots great. It also has an incredibly long barrel. So the question is, do I take it to a gun shop and have them cut down the barrel to an appropriate usable length, or do I leave it in its original form? I release the chat to duke it out.
