The original J-Bar was my paternal grandfather, C. W. B. Bryan, Texan by birth, orphaned in the Civil War, rancher in New Mexico near Clayton. His picture hangs in the Capitol building in Sante Fe, one of the state representatives in 1917. He branded his cattle with an underlined capital "J" brand, and was known as "J-Bar Bryan" most of his life. An ornery so-and-so by most accounts...I guess he had to be in order to survive.
