  1. Stoeger. Cheap and they just work. Easy to mod, even I did my own. Then IF you get fast enough to want a 'better' sxs u keep your Stoeger as a back up and loaner. I have 2 and loan the extra to friends when they come with me. No regrets.
  2. Fighting back effectively is not genocide, even if a response is 'bigger' than the provocation. We have actual examples of genocides. Please check your definitions. Btw I would also not use nukes. I would guess that was hyperbole from Trailrider.
  3. Well I tried to send a pm. I am interested. I need to know how to send funds and give you my address. I am not sure why no 'send message' icon appeared when I went to your name. I will try again later.
  4. Deacon Doug I would heed this advice. It comes from an actual user.
  5. Sorry. Just saw your question. Borchardt rifles at rugercyl.com. I did not use them but I think they are legit. I did a search for 'ruger 44-40 cylinder' to find them. I hope that helps.
  6. I have a Ruger 44-40 Vaquero. When I got it I was shooting a Super Blackhawk 44 mag that I had found a fluted cylinder for in a basket of parts I bought on ebay. The fluted 44mag cylinder dropped right in and worked perfectly in the SBH and then in the Vaquero. New Vaqueros are a medium frame and the Vaquero/Super Blackhwk cylinders do not fit. They are too long. To get a fluted cylinder from Ruger is impossible. Using a 357 SBH is the only route although there is an after market company that makes unfluted cylinders for $200. I actually have my 44-40 convertable up for trade in the classifieds. If you have a trade it might be cheaper than trying to get a cylinder made. Keep the gun you like and the cylinder, then sell the extra gun. Doesn't make much sense but we do a lot of stuff that doesn't make a lot of sense to get our 'perfect' set-up for CASS!
  7. Price is average but if you live out here this is the first I've seen. Don't save on tax or price but no hazmet fee and supports locals. Superior in Tyler Texas. Probably at the Longview store too. I need LPP so didn't help me much, but there it is if you need it.
  8. I appreciate it. I just want 2 avoid a sale then not being able to replace it quickly. If no offers in a week or so I might. I have had another pm me with a similar offer.
  9. When I teach about different state laws I will ask if that sounds like it adheres to the supremacy clause. We don't get a lot of snow flakes here but we do have a boarding program with 120 students. It will be interesting to hear what they think.
  10. In early March I am doing a weeklong course on CAS at the private religious HS/MS in which I teach. Day 1 in the NRA handgun class and a 2nd amendment review. Days 2-5 we go to ranges and shoot matches here in East Texas. Can anyone tell me what the rules for gun ownership are in your country? How has it changed recently? I want to contrast our fairly unique rights to other people's rights. I think asking actual shooters from other nations will provide a more realistic outlook on what a shooter actually goes through in other nations vs a Google search. If you are a US citizen but have had international experiences please feel free to chime in. Thanks! PS A big shout out to Nomad's Tactical range for hosting us on Day 2 for our NRA qual and The Fort Parker Patriots, Texas Trouble Makers, and Oakwood Outlaws for hosting a match the other three days! This is the Trouble Makers and Outlaws second time to host. 20 students ages 13-18. Goodtimes.
  11. I have an old model Vaquero and New Vaquero both in 45 colt. Both great guns. My main match guns are old Vaqueros in 44 so I like the old but...the smaller new ones do just feel a little better. The New Vaquero did seem to have a few little issues that I had to fix but a good gun To answer your posted question, the Rugers are the toughest and are priced in the middle. Colts cost more and clones a little less. Rugers are heavier than Colts. Old Vaqueros and Super Blackhawks alot, New Vaqueros and Blackhawks a little. Get a Ruger and never worry. PS While I shoot Vaqueros I do think the flat top stainless Blackhawks are beautiful. The ramp front site is also easier to aquire when shooting. Can't do Classic Cowboy with a Blackhawk but they are GREAT to shoot! They are very common in all the other catagories at the clubs where I shoot.
  12. I have a blued Ruger Vaquero 44-40 with a fluted 44mag cyliner to trade. 4.6 inch barrel. (The 44 mag cylinder did not come with the gun. I got it seperately.) The 44-40 is the cylinder in the revolver in the pictures. Great gun. It is one of my main match guns. Shoots great, springs are the ones that were in it when I bought it but they are light. I use cci primers and they always work. Brass front sight cover. The bluing is flawless on the 44-40 cylinder and barrel. On the 44mag cylinder the bluing is better than in the pics but not as good as the rest of the trade. Case hardening looks very good, better than in the pics. I do not shoot black and I do not think it has had black but I only owned it for a couple of years so I do not know for sure. It seemed like new when I got it, even though made in the 90s. Some small scratches on the frame by the name 'Ruger'. See the pics. The chambers have been reamed, but a couple of them seem a little tighter than the other 4, so it might need to be done better. Unless the trade is super good I plan to keep the SBH hammer and will re-install the stock hammer before shipping. I don't mind keeping the gun but...I never shot 44-40 through it. It needs to go to someone that will. What I want? A stainless Vaquero 44 mag, 4.6 barrel or shorter, but I would consider 5.5 inch barrel. I can include some 44-40 new starline brass. I think I have around 200 unused pieces. Also some 44-40 dies. If no one is interested, thats okay, I can keep the gun. Let me know what you have if you are a 44-40 guy. PS I have to get another 44 in trade because this is one of my main guns. Really dont want guns in different calibers. Gotta be a Ruger and stainless. I like the stock Ruger hammer block safety. I have some different grips I could swap off if you don't like these. Thanks
  13. Steve still does great work on 92s or 73s. He is often backed up but worth a call. I am sure the other cowboy smiths could help you too. Steve might be able to get you the part you need to do it yourself.
  14. While you have the grip frame off check the other spring plunger too. To the left of the hammer on the back. There are some really good smiths on here that I am sure will chime in to help you tomorrow. They must be in bed now. They r so much better than me.
  15. When you put the grip back on the little spring with the plunger on it that sits just behind the single screw infront of the trigger guard has to be positioned where it pushes on the cylinder latch. If its too far left it sits on the gate spring. I dont know if that's the problem but EVERYTIME I take mine apart I have to reassemble it at least twice. You can do it though. Find a good video and don't give up. You may need to walk away for and hour or two though...
  16. If your hand loads do not have enough powder in them they will not burn completely. Then the unburned powder is spread around your revolver. A subsequent shot will ignite the 'extra' powder and it looks like you are shooting black. I had that issue during the covid powder shortage. Gotta say, while it looked cool, it freaked me out a bit. Now that I have more powder I load them up better and no issues. At the time I was using the lightest liad that would leave the barrel.
  17. Where did you find an sbh hammer to order? The places I checked are out.
