I'm a double guy that shoots duelist and have been shooting for over 25 years. Last April I wanted a single trigger Stoeger to take the place of my double trigger Stoeger. I found one on GB and when it arrived, it was stiff! I smoothed it up and it worked pretty well. Then it started to open up after the first shot. Luckily I live near Johnny Meadows. He took it home and did some fitting to the locking luggs and the latch that engages them. I've shot it in about 3 monthlys and so far it runs great. It is certainly not an SKB or a Browning, but for a short barreled coach gun that I don't have to worry about, it gets the job done. BTW, my double trigger Stoeger is still running strong, I just wanted a single trigger 20" coach gun.

Thanks Johnny! I'll be at LV this Saturday. I have the SBH on my current Vaqueros. I'm looking at a set of SASS Vaqueros and noticed the spec sheet mentioned "Montado Style" hammers. I was just wondering what the difference is. Thanks to Larsen, I now know.

So the other day I stopped in a local GS and came upon a set of SASS Vaqueros, previously owned, but unfired in the red Ruger box for what I believe is a good price. I currently have a set of NM Vaqueros with Super Blackhawk hammers installed. I shoot duelist and like the SBH hammers. I've read that the SASS Vaqueros have "Montado style" hammers. Are they different from SBH hammers? If so in what way? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for reporting back the resolution to your Stoeger not staying closed after firing. I had a similar issue with a single trigger Stoeger and a quick trip to Johnny Meadows and mine locks up tight. I've used it in a few monthlys and so far, so good!

TTB, at the clays range I work at, some of our very solid shooters comment that they don't see any real difference using reclaimed vs. new shot for non competition skeet/trap shooting. YMMV.

Absolutely! I buy new shot for trap/skeet but use the reclaimed for SASS. Just paid $50/ bag of new shot. I remember paying under $10/ bag when I first started shooting clays. Damn, I'm old.

I have a set. Not sure what these things are worth today, have to look it up. Feel free to make me an offer. I have Pachmayer grips on my Portuguese Hi-Power that holds my .22 conversion, but some better feeling, to me, wood grips on my original HP. It would probably be worth more with the originals, but I will never sell it. whytelw AT comcast DOT net

Howdy, I have a nice Browning Hi Power made in 1973. It came with Pachmayer grips, but I'd like to find a set of original style wood grips in good or better condition. Anybody have some that they would be willing to sell? Let me know.

T/C plastic snail capper. Been using one for 10 years.
When I shot my Ruger Old Armies, the T/C plastic snail capper worked very well. I tried the brass types but didn't have much luck with them.

Skinny snake eyes pickins, I recently changed out the springs on a new set of SASS vaqueros. Previously on other Rugers, I went with Wolff springs. This time I went to Longhunters (listed on the SASS Merchants page) and bought two sets from him. The reason I went with Longhunter's springs is I like the 15 or 17 lb. hammer springs as I shoot duelist. The package Longhunter sells has both 15 and 17 lb. hammer springs, the 30 and 40 oz. trigger springs and the heavier base pin spring for around $13.00. I had another set of NM Vaqueros set up with a 15 lb and 40 oz spring set and I've shot a lot of CCI and Federal primers. All of them have gone bang. Good luck.
