  1. I am reloading Remington STS Hulls with 10.0 grains of Alliant Green Dot behind a Claybuster CB-1075-20 wad & 3/4 oz. of #8 shot. I load these for my wife's Ladies & Youth Stoeger 20 ga. SXS and it produces little kick .... similar to a 12 ga. Win. AA low recoil round. She has not had any problems with knocking down the targets (when she aims straight) with this load. Unfortunately it is getting very hard, if not impossible, to find the Alliant Green Dot powder.
  2. LOL. Or in my case keeping my eyes from crossed eyed. The bullets I am using are coated Missouri Bullets Cowboy #2. It has two grooves, and the lower groove may be a lube groove. Your suggestion of keeping it simple between the 105 gr. bullets my wife shoots in her pistols and the 125 gr. in our rifles makes since, and I do not believe I would have to reset my die. In that case it would be the 1.45" OL. That also makes it a little easier for her to load in the 16" carbine.
  3. I search the site for supplies I can't find at local stores or at reputable online stores. I have bought smokeless powders several times on Gunbroker, but only if someone is selling locally where I can pick it up and not pay the high shipping & hazemat fees. Other than that, I check occasionally to see if particular items are back on the market so I can then start inquiries locally.
  4. I have a Uberti 1873 Rifle and my wife has a Uberti 1873 Ladies & Youth Carbine. For three years I have loaded 38's for both guns. I have been using 125 TCFP coated bullets w/ two crimp grooves. I have loaded them in the past crimping in both the first groove (1.45" overall length) and in the second groove (1.5" overall length). Both lengths cycle just fine through both of our guns, and have never had a round hang up and not cycle. I am getting ready to reload for our rifles this year and started wondering if the depth in the casing effects accuracy and/or performance. Your thoughts and knowledge would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. I don't shoot nearly as much as most of you, and don't know as much about the rules as a lot of you. My question is this change to rule #3 a rabbit hole to future changes in other rules?
  6. I bought my wife a Stoeger 20 gauge Uplander Youth shotgun to fit her better. The LOP is shorter than a standard 12 or 20 gauge. It fits her good. Factory ammo for this gun had a little too much kick, so I bought a Lee Load All and started reloading her a lighter load. Below was my testing on the range of different loads: Alliant Green Dot (3/4 oz. load) (#8 Shot) (CB1075-20 Wad) (Winchester AA hulls) (Cheddite 209 Primer) ….. shot from Stoeger Uplander Youth SxS w/ 22” barrels & cylinder choke. FPS (avg), Recoil (rated 1-4 lowest to highest), Fouling (rated 1-4 lowest to highest based on shell inspection) 14.0 Gr. 1200 FPS (Factory Lowest Published Load Data for Win AA hulls) 12.7 Gr. 1117 FPS 4 Recoil 2 Fouling 11.6 Gr. 1051 FPS 3 Recoil 3 Fouling 10.5 Gr. 992 FPS 2 Recoil 2 Fouling 10.0 Gr. 967 FPS 1 Recoil 2 Fouling NOTES: Recoil of all were lower than the Winchester AA Target 1200 FPS factory loads, and significantly lower with the 10.0 and 10.5 grain loads. The recoil with the lower grains were about the same or slightly less than our Stoeger 12 ga. coach gun shooting the Winchester AA featherlite loads. Fouling was about the same on all loads, and noticeable over the factory loads mentioned above. All loads were capable of knocking over steel targets at 12 yards. The 10.0 grain load should be fine for SASS, and is what we settled on. I am now re-loading Remington STS hulls due to they shuck better from the gun. She has now shot about 6 matches with this reload with no issues. She really likes the gun and the reloads. Hope that helps.
