I went to National Gun Day in Louisville, Ky today and found a 5lb jug of Trail Boss.

After a bit of talking, we agreed on a price.

What would you all consider a reasonable price?

After I hear back from you all, I will post the price I paid.

    Thanks

    I found a 5-lb jug for $250, friends & neighbors price.

  2. My Mirouku built 1855 Highwall slugs out at 0.377 groove diameter.  I use bullets ranging from 0.379 - 0.380 in diameter, which are readily available in cast, Hi-Tek and Polymer Coated forms in various weights.  Badman Bullets, Cheycast Bullets, Bearcreek Supply are just three examples.  I've used all three in addition to home-cast bullets found in an estate sale.  In the latter case, my buddy sizes and lubes them at 0.379 for me.

Go to Starline Brass website and read the tech note they have on the .38-55 wcf cartridge for more information, but essentially, the best answer is to slug your own barrel to confirm what your gun's groove diameter is.  In cases of the .38-55 wcf guns, vintage up to modern production, they are not all equal and have a wide range of differing groove diameters.  Slug your barrel first, then go bullet hunting.

    Howdy HH (aka),

I got a terrific deal on a Stoeger years ago due to a cracked stock. I looked everywhere for a replacement with no luck. I decided to fix the crack with some epoxy and careful clamping. It worked so well that I then went and recontoured and refinished the wood. It looks much better and has held up well. I'd suggest that you repair the stock you have as best you can because it may be a long wait until you find a replacement.

Thanks for the pointer, but unfortunately, mine didn't just crack.  I lost a chunk about 1/2" wide by 1-1/2" long right on top where the stock attaches to the gun.  I can clearly see the guts of the gun through the gap.  I looked all over for the piece that came out, but to no avail.  I may have to resort to forming a piece and/or using epoxy, wood putty and/or autobody filler to fill in the hole and reshape it to not interfere with the inner workings, but initially I'll search for a new/replacement stock.  Since I already bought a new, and better, shotgun it's relegated to backup status anyway.  I can wait to see if one becomes available for now.

  4. Broke a chunk out of my SG stock on my very last stage at EOT this year and am looking for replacement options.  I went to Stoeger, Midwest Gun Works and BolandFX websites and their new stocks are all "out-of-stock".  I hit the Notify me buttons, but in the meantime am looking for other sources.  I'm amenable to buying a roughly fitted stock blank if that's all that's out there, but would prefer a real Stoeger stock.

I'm not in a screaming hurry as I bought a much nicer SG about 3-hours after that last stage, but I do want to get the Stoeger back in service as a backup and for use in BP matches.

If you don't have one to sell, but know of potential sources other than the three I've mentioned above, please chime in.
