Communicate via PM. Posting your contact information invites scammers to try and intercept payment or product.

Exactly! When our overly trusting members post their email addresses and phone numbers, anybody, anywhere, can see that. Armed with that information, they can find out just about anything about someone.

Another Scammer
Eliphalet R. Moderator replied to Smokewagon Grampies's topic in SASS Wire Classifieds
I scanned back at some of your previous Classifieds posts. You listed your email address and phone number in 5 threads that I've found. Anybody, (doesn't even have to be a Wire Member), can see forum threads. You open up a world of information to whoever. We suggest that you only do business through PMs. Regard all email offers with suspicion, then still be wary. I deleted any threads I could find with this information. You should search of your past posts also, just in case I missed one. But unfortunately, Google has a long memory, and where they show snippets of a subject under the search results title, your info is still visible. Your info is still out there on some car forums. -
Ned, Both you and Yeldog have posted your email addresses. Using those, I was able to do Google searches and find Names, Phone Numbers, Google Map photos of your houses, employment info, and more. Data miners harvest your information, and it's all out there on the web. I've deleted what I found from past SASS Wire posts. But, please do your own searches. If you find posts with your info exposed, edit it out, delete it, report it... or if the thread is archived, send me the link so I can kill it. Keep your information private. Use PMs instead.

I searched your past posts and found where you had typed in your e-mail address in thread replies. Armed with your email address, I found your real name, address, phone number, and a Google map photo of your house. Please have people contact you via PM instead of posting your email address. It gives scammers all types of access. I've deleted what I found, but I urge you to do a Google search of your email address and delete any posts it appears in, or if it's archived and you can't delete it, send me a link so I can do it for you.

Where to find #4 lead shotgun shells
Eliphalet R. Moderator replied to Marshal Bobby's topic in SASS Wire
You may not have been asked, but most ranges will post their rules for members, or in the membership papers, like all of ours have. If you are not a member of the range, but only the SASS club, the range rules should have been relayed when you first came to shoot. The Match Director or Match Safety Officer may have been lax in that area. Range rules may be in the match booklets. If not, use whatever makes you happy within SASS rules. Since we do most of our CAS shooting in pistol bays, some find that splashback from swingers and knockdowns with #4 shot, vexing. -
Where to find #4 lead shotgun shells
Eliphalet R. Moderator replied to Marshal Bobby's topic in SASS Wire
Check what your local club allows. Although SASS rules state #4 shot or smaller, most ranges limit us to birdshot, 7.5 or smaller. -
I took a quick look and found five Classifieds and Wire posts where you had written your email address. With your email address, I quickly found your name, address, phone number, and more. I deleted what I could find. Everybody, check your profiles and past buy/sell/trade posts to make sure you haven't posted your e-mail addresses, phone numbers, or other contact information. If you can't delete it, tell us, we can help. Don't buy anything with PayPal Friends & Family or other forms of payment that leave you no recourse if a transaction goes sour. Someone is going to steal your money.

Reaction to Reactiv Grips

Classified Forum users: Type your e-mail address into Google's Search Bar. (Google casts the widest net.) If your e-mail address shows up in a SASS Wire post, delete the e-mail info. If you can't, report it to us to delete it for you. This is how scammers are finding your personal contact information and attempting to intercept payments by posing as the seller. -

Who can short stroke?
Eliphalet R. Moderator replied to Tell Sackett SASS 18436's topic in SASS Wire
Exactly. Two of our members started it on Facebook, and it is now posted in the FAQ section. But they couldn't add what they don't know. So, it's up to our SASS members to add more in the comments. Then, I'll get it onto the list here and notify them on Facebook. -
Best forms of Payment in this context means something that offers Buyer Protection. Best form of Payment in this context means something that offers Buyer Protection. The only seller we've had "ripped off" recently is when they sent the item before they received payment.

The problem is that many people have posted their email addresses in their profiles or some previous comments. Scammers target those accounts to try and hack into. Apparently, there are folks who are not using very secure passwords. There have been 3 SASS Member accounts hacked into and used for scams, that I know of. This is why I have been posting the following: If you don't regularly change your account password, do it now. Make it something difficult, with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols. Write it down so you can find it again. People are impersonating SASS Members whose accounts they've hacked and posting items in the classified forum. SASS vote regarding women’s categories

I use Gmail, and I had to hunt for it. While the usual SASS emails land in my main inbox, this one ended up in the "Promotions" folder. ... the mysteries of Google's Mail Service... -

Scammer Issue
Eliphalet R. Moderator replied to Frenchie LaPrade, SASS Life #55947's topic in SASS Wire Classifieds
I deleted all the posts I could find by doing a google search for your email address. But the problem is that the Internet is forever. Google retains a snapshot of details that includes your name, address, and phone number. I would suggest making yourself a new Gmail or Yahoo Mail account. Use the new account for all communications with SASS members or the SASS Wire. Consider all texts or calls concerning ads as possibly coming from scammers. Do business via PM. This way, any activity on your old account, you would know, is not legit. If you do make yourself a new email and password. Call the SASS Office, they will make that change effective, no problem. Eli
