Well, I have an SDB, two 550’s & one 650. They all crank out excellent ammo. I like the SBD for its compactness and auto indexing. Taking your hand off of the handle is no problem as you insert a case with your right hand and place a bullet in your left. After a few runs you just naturally get the hang of it. I also have everything mounted on in line fabrication quick change mounts and highly recommend them. Everything I use is on the quick change plates, all of the dillons, rockchucker press, star sizer etc. & you won’t believe how handy it is to have them. The reason I have so many Dillons is that I load at two different locations. I bought the 650 first and have had it for several years. I bought a 550 four years ago for loading older cartridges mainly 44-40, 38-40, 32-20, 25-20 as It is slower so you don’t booger up the thin case mouths of those cartridges that can happen with a 650. The SDB was for the other home and is set up for 38 spl. It is a little faster than a 550 and works great for 38 spl, you start loading and before you know it, you have a pile of quality ammo. The only knock I have is the height of shell plate to the die plate is lower than the others so it’s hard to see the case fill with small powder charges as it’s hard to see to the bottom of the case. I like to see each fill level as they advance from powder charging station. If you use trailboss, this isn’t a problem as it has a high case fill. I’ve also used the SBD for 45acp & this isn’t a problem as the case is short. Sorry for the long post & hope this helps, they’re all good presses and you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Thnx Bart Solo for the Redfield tip, I was looking for a 100yd lightweight range scope & this will fit the bill!
2 hours ago, Bart Solo said:I hate to come in late, but Midway USA is clearing out Redfield Rampage 20-60 spotting scopes for about $150. I paid about $200 when I bought mine. It is perfect for your use although the other scopes mentioned are probably better quality. You would probably need a better tripod.

If you need even more therapy, give casting & powder coating bullets a try!

Might try a new firing pin, yours might be worn just enough to be unreliable. Gun Parts has them in stock for around $23

Best wishes that your son gets well soon!
