Show Us Your SASS/WB Buckles, Medals, Plaques
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Del Rio Pete's topic in SASS Wire
Here's the only 1st place award I have won so far. I won't tell you how many people were in my category, but it was more than zero and less than two -
So you're watching a movie, which is just a pretend story, with actors who are pretending to be something they aren't, and your complaint is that they aren't pretending good enough or that they are pretending too good for what they really are? I can't quite tell

The Raiders are gone
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
Well in all fairness to anyone outside the bay area, it has been 12 years since the Raiders were anything close to relevant so it's understandable. -
anybody tried a 1858 carbine in frontiersman catagory ?

I think if local clubs are going to allow the use of non sanctioned guns and equipment, which I am all for by the way, they need to stress to the person that they are allowing it there only and that other clubs won't and certainly big matches won't. What I don't want to see is that the clubs take a hard line stance at local matches based on what is allowed at the big matches, especially since a mere fraction of those at the club will ever go to a big match. We always say that we are in the entertainment business right? It's all about knowing your audience. -
Progressive press people, Question.....

I deprime before wet tumbling as well. An extra step that is probably not needed, but I got tired of the occasional wet pocket when I deprimed and sized at the same time. So now right after a shoot I just put in my universal deprimer, pop them all out, toss the cases in water, then get to work on cleaning the guns. Give the cases a rinse and toss them in the wet tumbler. It doesn't take that long. This is with black powder. I probably wouldn't even bother cleaning anything with smokeless if I ever used the stuff. -
I spoke with Winchester a month ago and they said the standard 66 would be in this year's catalog, probably around February. I nearly held off and waited for it, but then fell in love with their 73 more and got it instead. The case coloring on these Winchesters is just way too good looking to not have one. I'm sure I'll end up with a 66 from them as well, just not right away.

Huh? In this case the team with the better record had to play away. So what exactly are you talking about? -
if only my children had more patience.

I've been hunting my whole life. When I was a kid, I found it quite boring just sitting around waiting or in a tree stand. Didn't really enjoy it at all. My father could tell so he tried a different approach. He took up tracking, calling, stalking and anything else he could do to make the hunt more exciting for me. We may see less tracking than at a tree stand, but in the end we became better hunters. Since then I've taken over a hundred deer with just a stick and string. Maybe you should expand your knowledge and skill set if you want your boys to expand theirs. -

What a great price. I can't believe this is still here. If I didn't just score one recently, I'd be all over this -

It does suck that a 12-4 team has to play at a 9-7 team. I doubt that it would have made much of a difference in this case. Number one defense against a rookie first time starting third string quartback. Next year -

After reading this post, I can't think of a single thing to add. So I guess +1? -
Just be forewarned that if you do this, then you will be buying a colt. Nothing feels the same in ones hand as a real colt. Some come close, but a real colt is where it's at.

I agree with grizzly Dave. What one club I shoot at does occasionally is a mix and match shoot. There you can shoot almost any way you want, with certain handicaps. If you stoke your 97 or 87, it's a ten second penalty, and a ten second bonus if you use pistols for rifle targets. What I did was use my 1911 as my rifle and stoked my 87, while still being able to shoot my colts. That was a fun match. Another pard did it stoked 97, but shot josey Wales with 4 58 cap guns. It was cool watching the ideas and guns others used. I don't recall any double actions though. It's not something I'd do all the time, but we all had fun and it was well advertised ahead of time so there weren't any surprises.

My father tells me that when he was a kid they ate a lot of lamb because beef and pork cost more. That was probably before the days of big agribusiness. I know when I was a kid we ate deer and elk almost exclusively because that was even cheaper than all the other meat, just costing a tag, an arrow, and some leg work

Sounds great. I love lamb sausage. My hierarchy of tasty meats goes something like Deer, Elk, Buffalo, Lamb........

So? Were they athletic shoes or combat boots? -
Speaking of primers, is there any major difference between Federal and Federal match primers? I recently bought a 1000 of the latter because they just happened to have them in stock when I picked up my new Winchester.

And some ranges don't let you move and draw, or at our club load shotgun shells until you have come to a complete stop due to the gravel surface. This makes me wonder if all the great gunfighters of the past went through the checklist. I imagine the some of the gun battles like the OK corral would have been long over before one got to number 3.

El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Father Kit Cool Gun Garth's topic in SASS Wire
You still haven't shot at a match yet? What are you waiting for? If you've got the guns and gear, get with someone locally and borrow 100 rounds. You can always pay it back later. But you can never get back the time you're wasting in not shooting. It sounds silly, but you will not think so once you start shooting. I guarantee you will wish you had started sooner.
