Some brands of primers will have the metal part of the primer recessed a small amount into the cup. I had it happen last weekend and recocked the shotgun twice, it still did not fire. The primers were barely dented. My shotgun generally leaves a good dent in primers. Springs have NOT been lightened.

First, NEVER ask the state police for advice on anything to do with firearms. I can't tell you how many times my state police told shooters coming to my Egg Shoots the wrong thing. I tested them a few times myself and got totally different answers depending on who answered the phone. A lawyer well versed in these things is your best resource.
You can transport firearms anywhere in the country as long as they are out of your control and secured in some type of container or locked compartment. UPS and FEDX drivers that pick up a load of Smith and Wessons in Massachusetts MUST go through NY state to get just about anywhere in the country. I'm sure all those guns are not registered to the driver or he has a licence to carry/possess in every state he traverses.
But I've still never received absolute resolve about the over ten cartridge in a lever gun in NY question answered.
Transporting through and attending a shoot are entirely different.

Since Allie Mo asked, otherwise I wouldnt say anything...
we joined almost 2 years ago. In that time we have shot 60ish matches. I wanted to shoot SASS in the 90s when I was in the Marine Corps in California, but with very little pay it didnt happen. 4 cowboy guns is expensive.( I shoot alot, many different styles) Why did I join? I thought I had to in order to shoot matches. I might not have if I had known you can shoot at local shoots without joining. I paid for 3 3year memberships and my wife hasnt shot but 2 matches because of being pregnant. If I had known I sure wouldnt have thrown that money away, I have no problem paying money to my club for targets, facades,etc. But not extra to SASS.
For all you saying getting to use the wire should be for members only or its a benefit. You do realize most forums on the internet are free right? They are generally paid for through advertising. (like the wire has) so, its not much of a benefit. I pay for 3 memberships but only get 1 magazine. WOW theres a benefit.
I doubt I will ever shoot a big match, so I dont see the benefit there either. The ludricous idea that some people have expressed that we OWE SASS more than just dues is well ludicrous. This isnt church where you are paying tithes so they save your soul (or something). You are paying to have fun. Do you feel indebted to the movie theater? Do you feel indebted to the race track you visit? or other games you play? I also assume all of you who think we owe SASS an eternal gratitude for being able to shoot cowboy also served your country. Since there is a place you should feel indebted to.

I agree with you MM, we are also lucky here in Wyoming to have the freedom that we enjoy. NY has become overcivilized and unfortunately freedom is diminished there.
I wouldn't call that being "overcivilized".

The one whose bullets were so poorly made that they would not chamber in my Rugers also said they would be sent in 2 weeks, it was over a month and he would not answer my texts to him and finally sent the bullets AFTER I requested a refund. Reprehensible at best.

Annabelle I believe that it says on the HR application that you must have a permit from your state of residence. If not I am in error.

I have had bullets from 2 different vendors of Cowboy bullets that were not acceptable. One was a vender of BP bullets (100%) were from a mold that was so out of whack that after sizing they still had gaps on the sides and would not chamber in a pair of 45 Colt Rugers . Another a couple of years ago had wrinkles and were poorly formed, about half of them.

I believe there is some Federal law that allows someone from another state to bring his guns into a different state for the purpose of shooting an NRA sanctioned event. I have been told that you can have your guns in the other state for 48 hours before and 48 hours after the event. You must also have a flyer or registration form with you to prove your are going to an out of state match. Not positive about this but this is what I have heard.
In NY you are allowed to bring your guns in 48 hrs before a shoot and must leave within 48 hrs when the shoot is over. You also must have a confirmation from the shoot that you are a registered participant. In addition you must have a Concealed Carry Permit from your state of residence in order to go to a shoot in NY with your guns. Again that is NY, most other STATES do not put a restriction on gun ownership or possession. This is NOT the Feds that are doing the restriction, it is NY.

I go to the range once a week. I shoot my Mosin, 1911, and a variety rangeing from smokepoles to an AR. The range is about 4.5 miles from my house. We shoot out to 1000 yds with the Mosins.

Shirttail Bess has no problem with multiple shots from an Ultra carry II in full load 45 acp. I'm thinkin if the powers that be think a woman can't handle a 1911 or similar weapon in 45 cal they are being chauvinistic. Any body that is in decent physical condition should have NO problem with that caliber.

Try some "E" rated tires. Not much more expensive than reg tires and will last MUCH longer. The only tires I will use in the desert for off road or off pavement driving.
