engraving your Sass number may make your pistol harder to sell if you ever get a desire to swap it on something different

I like old guns. Used guns if they have someones name or SASS number on them it just adds to the story of the gun or item.

  2. Don't use a round ball. Use a lead bullet unlubed and no patch . Use 1/2 of a full charge. 4 sizes of commercial grade grit, 4 bullets with each grit. The rifle/bore is cleaned after every shot. Grit sizes are 400, 600, 800 and 1200. the reason for half loads is the fire lapping is then the full length of the bore that the bullet/rb travels when it is fired in normal conditions. It also make cleaning the bore much easier. Normally takes 1 or 2 patches as compared to 10 or more for a new bore. It also should cutt your group size by >50 percent.

I don’t know how gas is blended in your state , but as soon as I went to using off road gas “no ethanol” 90% of my small engine problems went away. It costs a little more but to me it’s worth it.

If you want to get rid of the ethanol in gas just put a quart of water in a couple of gallons of gas and shake it up when it settles out the gas can be poured off the top. Water is heavier than gas.

When you post it in the classifieds ensure that you have prices.  Then again, if it is a notice you may not need pricing.

I posted a notice that I intended to sell at a shoot and it was deleted almost immediately.

  5. For folks that shoot long range that mark is called indexing and is used to orient the case in the chamber in the same place each time. Swiss does not respond to over compression as well as it could there is a limit. If you over compress it becomes inconsistent.  When I shot long range I found that OE was a much better powder and would be more consistent with compression.

If anyone thinks this cannot happen in your state, county, etc, wake up.

The forces of evil are on the march. They are coming for every corner of our hallowed republic.

California is easily one of the most beautiful states in the union, and SoCal has arguably the most pleasant climate in the country. Nobody would have been considered 'stupid' for pursuing a life there in the past. I'm sure 20 years ago people in Colorado were laughing about the loonies in California- now look at Colorado. And Arizona, New Mexico, the entire PNW, and even Texas and Montana have problems. In a few years, maybe we'll call people stupid for living in those areas, from our happy, free perch in...where?

Yes, this is a legally dubious and culturally ridiculous law. And it's headed to a town near you.

The movement to Colorado from Kalifornia began in the mid 60's and the real residents of Colorado were not happy then.

  7. Reenactor Is slower burning, produces more smoke and flame. I find my revolvers and rifle need a little cleaning to get through six stages without becoming clunky. Shotgun takes more powder to take KDs down if you happen to be at a match where they are more difficult.

Mine are 5 & 1/4' and  I really like them,  less recoil and less movement under hammering. Well u probably want to know how I came up with that length. Before I decided on what length I was going to get, I talked to Oklahoma Dee he has 2 sets 1 at 5" the other set 5 & 1/2. He said that like the 5" better. So I split the difference and got 5 & 1/4".

How do you get them long barrels out of yer holsters?

Lefty Wheeler shows that he cuts a groove across the bolt so you can squirt your favorite cleaner and bow out with air.   Always figured I would try that next time I remove the extractor from mine.      GW

The only real 73 I owned (188X) had that slot in it. Guess that is not a new idea.

  10. Take the gun apart. Take the bolt out. Use whatever cleaner you like to soak the bolt in. Wiggle the extractor up and down with your finger, then blow the crap out with an air compressor. I use a pipe cleaner to clean out the firing pin channel. I have never taken the extractor out to clean under it.
