  1. I think you might be confused. Pretty sure it's a federal law that prevents interstate transfer of firearms. I know when I was in arizona, I was poking around a pawn shop and the owner let me know that I coulnd't buy anything except antique firearms unless I was an FFL. I think the interstate transfer requires an FFL in both states, because I think the pawn shop did have an FFL. Maybe an FFL holder can chime in and clear this up.
  2. I thought something similar to this myself. But then I realized that tex is probably (note, I never met him, so this is a guess) the kind of man who will not be muzzled, ever. In light of that, maybe he just needs to make it more clear in his article when he is disagreeing with the current rules. The problem with this article is that it sounded like he was trying to clarify the rules. Maybe some of you who know him could pass that critique on to him. Or maybe tex just likes stirring up trouble. I can respect that too.
  3. Was there a link here? I don't see it. I use CLP cause it smells just like the stuff they used in the military. Don't know if it is the same stuff, but it smells and feels the same.
  4. Dunno if it's true, but I just heard an interview with a guy who wrote a book about danny deets (one of the men who died in the lone survivor mission). According to him, when soldiers come to him asking him to sign a book, he gets them to sign his copy first because he said he felt silly signing stuff for heroes. And Danny's mom has a copy of the book that she's getting signed by soldiers too.
  5. I wonder if the car can parallel park. Might get one for my daughter, it's gotta do a better job than she does.
  6. My wife used to just bang the phone on the desk a few times before hanging up on me. Then I'd call her back and leave a message asking if we got cut off.
  7. Wow, that really was a good video (assuming he wasn't full of bull, cause I wouldn't know if he was). 2 questions though. #1 do all those tips apply to rifles as well? And #2, does anyone actually adjust the cast? Seems like if you did that it would make the gun too difficult to shoot with the other hand. I'm going to check my long guns when I get home and see if any of them have any cast.
  8. How do you go about buying one of those johnny meadows race guns? I didn't see a website when I googled him.
  9. This might be the answer. I need the tie downs personally. It messes me up when they come untied. I guess I'll check and see if the missus needs hers.
  10. On a related note, if I'm looking for a new side by side and my memory isn't good enough to remember every brand and model that's been mentioned, how do I know if a random SxS i find at a gun show is SASS legal? I can figure out whether the barrel and overall length is acceptable, because I'd need a tax stamp if it wasn't. But it's the automatic extractors that I'm afraid of tripping me up. As far as I know, I've never seen an automatic extractor. So how would I know if I ever accidentally wrapped my hands around one?
  11. Don't ask why I wanna know this, but I'm curious if any of you do shoots wearing a dress or skirt (I almost addressed this to just the ladies, but decided not to discriminate). How do you wear your pistols with a dress? Do you just not tie the leg straps, or is there another trick to it?
  12. Sorry to bump this after so long, but it's been a hectic coupla days for me. I just want to say I'm shocked I'm the only one not thinking hateful thoughts towards these guys. As long as they aren't doing anything illegal (and I'm about 90% sure they were in Texas and were participating in one of the many open carry rallies, which means they were not), then more power to them. You guys are literally saying we should not exercise our rights for fear that a law will get passed taking them away. If you're not exercising them anyway, then why would you care? It makes me a little sad to see that active members of a shooting sport have been so cowed by the liberal minority that they would disapprove of people exercising their rights.
  13. Was that Professor Hogan, by chance? I have a few uncles and some friends who served in vietnam and a grandfather who was in WW2, and despite all my gentle (and sometimes not so gentle) prodding, I've heard a grand total of 1 war story. One of my uncles got me to stop prodding by explaining that people who were in war don't really like to talk about it. The one story I did hear happened because one of my uncles had a flashback and broke down. A friend of the family and I followed him out to make sure he was OK. He'd never told the story to anyone before, I guess it was just time to get it out. Even his wife, friends and brothers didn't know the details, all they knew was that he'd had an bad experience in some tunnels, and that was all they needed to know. I guess that's another reason I stopped prodding the vets in my family.
  14. Oh, the ironing!
  15. http://www.pjsproducts.com/rb17.htm it can be hard to find. I think they sold their formula to a place called Blue Wonder. Smells like the same stuff, and the physical address for both companies is pretty darn close. http://www.bluewonder.us/BlueWonderGunCleaner.html
  16. The freedom riders were aholes with in your face tactics like this too, weren't they? I'm guessing those guys were in texas where they've been doing a lot of open carry rallies. Odds are, if the employees and customers were scared and didn't realize one of those rallies was going on outside, then they are the oblivious type of person who needs to be frightened once in a while. In my opinion. In answer to the original question, I don't know either, but I am sure that IF you can't carry in NRA HQ, it's because of the laws of whatever state they are in. The NRA Museum is in either virginia or maryland, but the HQ might very well be in DC.
  17. Oh and i don't think my method is all that great. It needs some streamlining. Pistols, I run some RB-17 down the barrel on a brush and let it sit while I spray the cylinders down with brake cleaner. Then I use a patch wetted with CLP on the cylinders 3 or 4 times till they come out pretty clean. Then brake cleaner on the frame, and a brush with RB-17 around the forcing cone. Then I push the RB-17 out, and run a CLP patch down the barrel 2 or 3 times till it's clean, and use the last mostly clean patch on the frame. Rifle and shotguns are mostly the same except since the shotgun comes apart, I don't use the brake cleaner. I use a q-tip to work the CLP into the receiver as best as I can.
  18. Wow, is it common for cowboy shooters to not clean their shootin irons? I think this might explain something I've noticed at the unloading table. I always wondered why everyone but me seem to have to use the extractor on their pistols. Gotta tell ya, I don't think I could stand it if the empties didn't just fall right out 90% of the time. Out of curiosity, does anyone know if other comeptitive shooters have the same attitudes about cleaning? Maybe it's different with automatics.
  19. Don't remember seeing any Dicks' around here, so I don't pay attention to them. I think I see some in Louisiana, but I've never been tempted to go in. Now if I ever am tempted, I think I'll be able to resist.
  20. I doubt it. My M1A1 never caught fire. That thing can't possibly get any hotter. I remember reading a test (in gun tests magazine I think) with a norinco M1A1. They did not remove the cosmoline jelly before putting it through the torture test. It did catch fire like halfway through.
  21. Selling guns doesn't mean they are not anti-gun. If you recall, after sandy hook, academy was the first big store to stop selling those evil assault weapons. But that's not even what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the owner donating lots of money and doing many fundraisers for anti-gun politicians and causes. Personally, I think the founder's son was just always anti-gun and it ate him up to inherit a business that sold them. The group he sold to isn't donating to the causes like he did, as far as I know, but they do donate almost exclusively to democratic candidates. Probably the only reason they still sell guns is that David, and then the people he sold to, liked money more than they disliked guns. They know most of the stores would close down if they became just a camping and fishing store. As I said before, I swore them off a few years ago because of david gochman's shenanigans with the money he made off of people like me. The current group might not be as bad, but they still don't look too good.
  22. I'm tickled as a cliche! Sometimes when I get stuck for a good one, I fall back on that.
  23. Just because it's got a short mag and no bayonette lug? I think you're being too harsh. There are some things I'd have done different, but all in all, that's the purtiest AR I've ever seen. How does it shoot?
  24. I wonder if they will accept UPC codes from boxes that were previously bought. And does anyone know if the UPC codes can be removed without the boxes falling apart? I like the idea of $6.50/box shotgun ammo, but I don't know if cutting off all those UPC codes will be worth $100. Especially if you add in the aggravation that I might need to find other containers to hold the shells for a few years till we get them shot up.
  25. Didn't want to start a new thread for this since there have been so many recently about gun cleaning. I'm curious if these cleaning solutions and methods work for smokeless powder too, and if not, why. Also, I don't see why, if hot soapy water is all you need, throwing it in the dishwasher would be a bad thing. Someone talk me down off the ledge if it really is a dumb idea. Oh and the OP asked about single shot muzzle loaders, so I thought I'd throw in how I used to clean mine. Cleaning jag on the ramrod with a patch, a rubber hose on the nipple running into a bucket of hot soapy water. Shove the jag all the way down and then work it back and forth as you're coming up. Made a bit of a mess when I did that (because I was a kid), but I always liked it because it was fun.
