thats a bit startling when it sank in , 100 years old and still flying , i never thought about that before

The first DC-3 flew on December 17, 1935, the 32nd anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight. The oldest one still flying, the Flagship Detroit, became a flagship when was delivered to American Airlines 15 months later, beginning a decade of service with the airline.  It was delivered just over 87 years ago on March 2nd 1937

One for the math fans …

There were three kingdoms, each bordering on the same lake. For centuries these kingdoms had fought over an island in the middle of that lake. One day, they decided to have it out, once and for all.

The first kingdom was quite rich, and sent an army of 25 knights, each with three squires. The night before the battle, the knights jousted and cavorted as their squires polished armor, cooked food, and sharpened weapons.

The second kingdom was not so wealthy, and sent only 10 knights, each with two squires. The night before the battle, the knights cavorted and sharpened their weapons as the squires polished armor and prepared dinner.

The third kingdom was very poor, and only sent one elderly knght with his sole squire. The night before the battle, the knight sharpened his weapon while the squire, using a noosed rope, slung a pot high over the fire to cook while he prepared the knight’s armor.

The next day the battle began. All the knights of the first two kingdoms had cavorted a bit too much (one should never cavort while sharpening weapons and jousting) and could not fight. The squire of the third kingdom could not rouse the elderly knight in time for combat. So, in the absence of the knights, the squires fought.

The battle raged well into the late hours but, when the dust finally settled, a solitary figure limped from the carnage. The lone squire from the third kingdom dragged himself away, beaten, bloodied, but victorious. And it just goes to prove, the squire of the high pot and noose is equal to the sum of the squires of the other two sides.

  3. The ONLY way to judge shooters intent is to ask them.  If you don't ask the shooter why they did something then you cannot ASSUME their intent.

Had the TO asked the shooter "Did you reengage target 4 because you missed it?" If the shooter answered yes, then it would be a miss. If the shooter said no, round 4 was for the rifle target that was already down then the shooter does not get a miss.

it likely matters not . . . so long as the match is a monthly.

Why does it not matter if it is a monthly match?  Failure to follow and correctly apply the rules at monthly matches just means that when those same people attend bigger matches incorrect calls are made.

Like it or not monthly matches is where we learn so we need to learn the correct way.

Get a load of the controls and electric equipment on this John Deere tractor.

Welcome to what John Deere has become. All that electronic gadgetry is proprietary so only a John Deere authorized service technician can repair it. You as the owner have been locked out of repairing anything.

Auto industry tried the same thing but congress stepped in. Farmers were not as lucky.

  7. No need to reshave to remove the stitches. The hair will not grow back that fast.

They initially shaved the area for a few of reasons. First is visibility. Hair obscures makes it harder to see the area in detail. Second is that the hair makes it hard to get the area really clean. Third is they don't want any hair to get trapped in the wound when they close it back up. It could be a source of infection.

Reason to keep it dry is that stitches are not water proof. So they can wick water along with contaminates into the wound and cause an infection. Even if they used water proof stitches, water born contaminates could travel via the interface between the skin and the sutures. again causing an infection.

Seems to me you could just turn the axle over ( right wheel to left side ) and that would work. Am I wrong?

Yep that would reverse the direction but might cause other problems.

Curiously, a UK pint is slightly bigger than a US pint.  Ounces are the same size though.

Yes the pint measurement is different but so is the ounce.

    For Example:

The British Imperial fluid ounce is equal to 28.413 milliliters, while the US Customary fluid ounce is 29.573 ml.

The British Imperial pint is 568.261 ml (20 fluid ounces), while the US Customary pint is 473.176 ml (16 fl oz).

The British Imperial quart is 1.13 liters (40 fl oz), while the US Customary quart is 0.94 L (32 fl oz).

The British Imperial gallon is 4.54 L (160 fl oz), while the US Customary gallon is 3.78 L (128 fl oz).

Why a Pint is Bigger in the UK than in the US

  10. BTW Most dedicated spotting scopes have variable zoom. Variable zoom scopes or binoculars do not make good telescopes.

Note: The above statement does not apply to telescopes where the magnification level is changed by swapping out eyepieces. It only applies to scopes that have a wheel or lever that changes the magnification level.

Upside down and backwards is no problem.  I spent many years doing photography with a large format view camera which works the same way.  Could you expand on the quoted comment above?  I'm not sure what you are trying to tell me.  Thanks.

Newtonian telescopes resemble the below design.

Newtonian Telescope, Types of Telescopes Part 1 | OPT Telescopes

The Primary has to be aligned. This article from Sky and Telescope explains it in very well.

I have a laser collimator so I used a paper A-hole for the center of my telescope.

I'm not going to be able to shoot this weekend so I'll get my scope out and see how good it can focus on something a couple hundred yards away and how much detail I can see vs my spotting scope..
