  1. Thanks to all for the feedback. I bit the bullet and ordered enough to set up for 2 presses and a lube-a-sizer. I have tried several of the other methods listed and have not been happy with them. Biggest issue is storage. Space is premium in my reloading room. Was bolting to the bench using captive nuts but my latest press has the mounting bolts too close to the edge of the bench for this method. I like having my SDB elevated and standing while loading. Looking forward to trying to load rifle rounds from an elevated press.

  3. So proud of these I thought I would share some photos of my granddaughter's marksmanship. Both her and her 7 year old sister hunt, fish and run trap lines with their dad. Going to be hard for them to find boyfriends half the sportsmen they are. Her she is getting ready with the Custom rifle her dad built for her. He suffers from TBI as a result of a close encounter with an anti-tank mine turned IED during a tour in the sandbox. Both myself and his Grandma are real proud of his new career as a dad, gunsmith, and builder of custom rifles. 100 yard group 200 yard group and finally 300 yards
  4. The patchwork of laws for CA is likely one reason out of state FFLs avoid shipping there.
  5. When I was stationed at China Lake about 15 years ago, our regular carrier would knock on the door if the mail piled up. We used to give him a nice Christmas gift every year because he was so nice. He was also credited with saving an elderly mans life. Seems he had a habit of greeting the mail man everyday and one day he missed. The next day he also missed so the mailman knocked on the door and looked in the windows. He saw someone lying on the floor so the mail man called 911 and then broke into the house. The man had had fallen and couldn't get up. Thanks to the mailman being a citizen he saved a life.
  6. There is a big difference in longevity depending on if you are using real BP or one of the subs. As others have said. You can usually collect all you need after a match. Just volunteer to pick up the discard buckets for each stage after a match. I collected 30 gallons of AA hulls this way in less than a year.
  7. If you don't find one I can make you one in a couple of weeks. The material will be about 1/4 in thick though. As an alternative you can cut a decent washer out of a cheap plastic folder or notebook.
  8. I reload then until they char / get rough around the outside of the mouth or the mouth splits. No idea how many times that takes.
  9. My 92 springs are 4 bullet longer than the mag tube

  11. It is obvious you do not understand the problem.

  13. This is the #1 problem. over 1/2 the guns my FFL receives from non FFL shippers does not have the name and address of the sender inside the package. Makes it a real PITA filling out the required forms. I now take a copy of the name and address I sent the gold dust to so he can complete the paperwork.
  14. I'll take the boots PM to follow
  15. When an FFL only gets $10 or $20 for the transaction, they do not feel it is not worth the extra time needed to coordinate shipping to CA. My FFL has shipped a couple of guns to CA for me. The first time the CA FFL became difficult so we had to have the buyer find another. Second time around it took over a week to get that pesky import cert. Fortunately I am friends with my FFL so he didn't charge me extra for all the hassles.
  16. Be extremely cautious of scrapyard lead. Bulk un-melted WW are ok as is sheet lead. Ignots of unknown composition may contain zinc. Even a tiny amount of zinc ruins lead for casting bullets and is difficult bordering on impossible to separate out. If you buy bulk WW be sure to check each one to ensure it is lead and not zinc. My dad still has over 2000 lbs of lead in small ingots of various sizes. Problem is some or all of it may contain zinc. As I have no reliable way to know if the ignots have zinc in them they are useless to me for casting bullets. 40 years ago we were casting large fishing sinkers and having a little zinc in the mix didn't matter. We melted down anything we could get for little or no cost. Made a special pot for melting down WW. I probably melted down at least of ton of bulk WW. Never bothered to check for zinc ones. Just filled the basket, dunked into the pot and after it melted removed the basket with the clips and slag all together. Nobody cared if a sinker was a little wrinkled all that mattered was that they were inexpensive.
  17. Pics of holsters and boots. What size gun were the holsters made for?
  18. See this discussion in the Wire. Finally the problem may get elevated to the correct people.
  19. If you hide it in your car and happen to get picked for the random drug dog search; odds are he will alert on your firearm. You will not like the outcome of having base security finding an undeclared firearm in your vehicle. I suggest you call the base and ask them what to do. In this case permission will be much easier than forgiveness if you get caught.
  20. Posting with photobuck may not be an issue for you but having to click on a link to a photo posted to photobucket from my perspective is rather painful. Sometimes it takes a couple of minutes to get the page to full load even with a 20Mb download connection. Photobucket loads more ads and other bandwidth hogging crap than almost any other website unless you are a paying member.
  21. That is the technician / troubleshooter in me explaining that the problem so that the IT person can see examples of what does and doesn't work. I fall back into that mode automatically whenever someone tells me that what I know is an issue cannot be duplicated by them.
  22. Pat Riot and the others are not imagining things and it is not an out of date browser issue, a MAC issue, Linux Issue, or a smart phone issue. I am running firefox 50.1.1 and if I use my bookmarks to access the website it works fine. If I type in www.sassnet.com it works HOWEVER, If I do a google search for "SASS" and then click on the link google provides a blank page opens. Same results occur if I do a search on "SASS Forums" the link opens to a blank page. Exact same thing happens if I do the same google searchs in Chrome Version 49.0.2623.87 (64-bit) or if I use version 55.0.2883.87 (64-bit) I tried it on a brand new Acer Chromebook using Chromium and if I perform the same two google searchs and click on the links both open to a blank page. Chromium Version 55.0.2883.103(64 bit) The link Chrome and Chromium tried to open is http://www.sassnet.com/art/common.php In both browsers doing a search on SASS using Yahoo search and clicking on the link in the search results also brings up a blank page. Using the DuckDuckGo search engine worked in FireFox, and both version of Chrome but not Chromium. This access issue is not imagined by a few hapless souls . It is real and who knows how many people it is effecting. Pretty hard to complain about accessing a site when all you get is a blank page.
  23. Looks Like the cast bullets site has been hijacked. When you try to go to it your browser gets redirected to an unrelated site.
  24. Download this book in PDF. From Ingot to Target: A Cast Bullet Guide for Handgunners by Glen E. Fryxell and Robert L. Applegate Will answer your current question and a whole lot more. I an also getting into casting and it cleared up a lot. A lot of what is written is oriented more towards handgunners but it can easily be extrapolated to rifles. Then get the Lyman Cast bullet Handbook. Just a hint but proper lubrication is as important if not more important than how hard your bullets are.
