  1. You may have better luck finding a centerfire firing pin and getting some .32 Long Colt ammo for it.  Marlin regularly shipped these with two firing pins, one for the rimfires and a centerfire pin for the .32 Short and Long Colt.  For whatever reason (probably because the rimfire ammo used to be cheaper) a lot of these are now found with only the rimfire firing pin.  There are reproduction centerfire pins out there though.  The .32 Short and Long Colt aren't exactly growing on trees either, but you do run into them occasionally and they are cheaper than the rimfires.  They're also reloadable if you're willing to deal with heeled bullets.

I heard once that sometimes .32 S&W has worked in a worn rifle with looser tolerances, but I've never tried it.  And the guy was trying to sell me a rifle, so who knows.  There are plenty of people, however, who have rechambered these rifles to S&W cartridges for ease of reloading (sometimes in combination with relining the barrel), but I'm not suggesting that for a family heirloom.

I have read that the rifles made before about 1906 sometimes won't feed .32 Short Colt anymore due to wear of certain parts; supposedly Marlin fixed this flaw in 1906 and the later rifles should be fine.

I hope some of that was helpful.  And if you are just looking to enjoy a few shots, finding a few .32 rimfires may be the cheapest and easiest way to go.

I hope y'all enjoy that rifle.  I still sometimes regret a particular Marlin 1892 that I passed up on about 2 years ago.

The problem with shipping loaded ammo is it has to be sent from a manned UPS customer counter. I had to ship some a year or so back, and found out the nearest customer center is over a hundred miles away.

You can also have UPS pick it up directly from your home, instead of taking it to a customer center, as UPS pickup is a legal way to ship ammo.  (Basically, you have to give it to a UPS employee, not the folks at the UPS store which is really a franchise.)

Pirateship.com (sounds corny but very legit) charges me $7.50 to schedule a next-day UPS pickup: $4.25, plus a Remote Area Surcharge of $3.25.  So if you're not "remote" it might only be $4.25.

  3. Last year, looking for dies for .32 S&W, I spent some time analyzing the different .32 caliber dies on Lee's website and what cartridges Lee says each is for.  I came up with this list of Lee's offerings (this might not include all dies that are just for the .32vH&R Mag/.327 Federal Mag):

    Sizing:
    .32 ACP/.32 S&W Long undersize
    .32 S&W Long

    Expanding:
    .32 S&W/.32 ACP
    .32 S&W Long/H&R Mag

    Seating:
    .32 S&W/.32 ACP
    .32 S&W Long
    .32 H&R/.327 Fed Mag

For such a short cartridge, expanding and seating/crimping are the important dies to get right, as the dies for longer cartridges might not reach down far enough to touch the mouth of the short case.  And for both expanding and seating, Lee uses the same dies as the .32 ACP.

Obviously for sizing, there's less of an issue reaching the case, and if you're getting it for black powder (like me) you might not need to size at all, as there won't be much case expansion.  The .32 ACP sizing die is listed as an "undersize" sizing die for the .32 S&W Long, so I figured that for only a few rounds I could live with that (or skip sizing), so the only remaining issue is the shell holder.  I already had a shell holder that would work for .32 S&W (IIRC without checking, it can use the same one as .380/.223), so I figured I'd just get some .32 ACP dies so I'd have that shell holder too and would be ready to go if I ever buy a .32 ACP.  And of course, the short-cartridge dies can still be used for .32 S&W Long, so that gives me the most flexibility.  YMMV.

  4. I sent a PM just now as well.

For me, I can find the PM icon by clicking on the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right.  But if a PM is received, there's usually a little symbol up there saying so too.

I told him I didn't deal with scammers. He said he could send me a driver's license to show he was not a scammer! Then he got banned so that means I got the last word in!!!

Too bad you didn't get to see what he sent, and what excuse he had for not letting you just mail payment to that address!
