  1. When I shoot C&B, I make up a batch of my BP lube into little balls, and then push them on top of the balls in the cylinder after they are loaded. Works better for me than lubed wads, and less work. Don't see why this wouldn't work with your cartridge guns if you need more lube. Won't work with a rifle though, and that is where you really need the BP lube, compared to revolvers.

  2. I used to pan lube with 50/50 Crisco and paraffin, worked pretty well until I bought me a sizer. The thing with unsized bullets is, they are unsized, so they can be more difficult to load as they aren't all the same. Kinda depends on how consistent your caster is and what size the bullets drop from his mould. Might be less time and effort for you if you just buy a lubrisizer and lube all those unsized bullets. If that works, maybe you could talk the Big Lube supplier into selling you unsized bullets for cheaper. Like most things, it is a time versus money thing, what do you have more of.

  3. For a beginner a steel mould will probably last longer, so RCBS or Lyman. For an aluminum mould I would go with one from Accurate Molds. They are expensive but they are very well designed and easy to use, are the best quality, and they pour the right size. The LEE 6 cavity moulds are good too but have more of a learning curve to keep them running. For more good info on casting your own you should go to www.castboolits.gunloads.com

  4. If they are in the original boxes and packed well, and you put an ORM-D sticker on it, UPS will ship it. The sticker can be downloaded from the internet. This keeps it shipped by ground as ammo can't go by air. Not that big a deal last time I did it.

  5. My kids(14 and 15) have been going to an MMA class for 4 years and both just earned their 1st degree Black Belts. That being said, neither one of them could take me in a fight. Most karate classes don't train hardened street fighters. It is very much about discipline, teamwork and exercise. They have been taught some take-down techniques and some weapon retention/take-away moves, which might come in handy. It sounds like your daughter has just started, give it a more time as the instructing tends to go a bit slow. You are probably like me when my kids first started, thinking Black Belt means Chuck Norris. it doesn't. It doesn't make it worthless training though.

  6. Hands down the best is an 1872 Opentop. I thought i preferred the Navy grip of my 45 Colt version, but when my wife confiscated those i found the Army grips on my 44-40 Opentops worked just as well. Get the 7.5" version, as it points/balances better, you hardly even need to aim.

  7. I went to an audiologist and was tested, and of course I had a hearing loss, mostly higher end. Too many miles on motorcycles without wearing earplugs, plus some machinery noise at work. It helps some but conversations can still be difficult in a noisy room. As for the TV, the best thing I ever did was to get a pair of wireless headphones. Now I can hear whats going on, even all the background sounds, without having to turn up the volume so much it bothers my wife and kids.

  8. Redwood: as for freedom of religion, i have nothing against that. But if i owned a brick and mortar store, and someone came in with placards preaching ANY religion, I would tell them this is a store, not a street corner, so please be courteous to the other customers. As for carrying in my store, as long as it is concealed, I wouldn't really care. If I had a store like that, instead of working from my home like I do, then I would be packing anyway. Think about it, even if you posted a "No Guns" sign, are the guys who are going to rob you going to care? That goes for the stupid people also. You just can't mandate away stupidity, I thought we all knew that already.

  9. I load lots of 44-40 with BP for my daughter and I. I use RCBS cowboy dies, Winchester brass, as it is the thinnest, and seat and crimp in one station. Not sure how a LEE FCD keeps from crushing cases as all the ones I damage are with the sizing die. If you are crushing them with the crimper than just back it off a bit.

  10. LEE's are not serious machines, RCBS Pro-Melt works pretty good unless you do large volume or cast large (45-70) bullets as it isn't that difficult to out-run the machine. I personally say get a Magma Engineering 40 pounder. Besides having a larger pot it also runs a 1500 watt heater, which you will never out-run. Just keep pushing in ingots and keep going. But it isn't cheap. It also has the option of using 2 pour spouts or one, by changing out the nozzle. which can be done while the lead is melted, if you wish. it also makes it much easier to clean the nozzle/spout as it removes from the machine.

  11. Funny, my trigger guards are completely covered and I haven't dropped a gun, ever, since 1999 when I went to my first shoot. But then I'm not that fast, shooting Frontier Cartridge Duelist/Classic Cowboy I usually run in the high 30's. If I wanted to go faster, well, never mind, I'm just here to look good and have fun with my family. And there is a middle ground between cheap junk holsters and high end leather.
