  1. @Father Kit Cool Gun Garth I too was stationed at Eglin AFB (mid 90’s) as a crash fire rescue man. We used to support missions out at the original flight line where Dollitle’s men learned to take off within the length of the then standard carrier. The outline of a CV was still visible on the flight line at the time. Google Earth shows the plant is now gone but the flight line still retains the CV shape.
  2. @Dusty Morningwood I’ve got a box of 20+ brass you sent me I can make available for this one. I had mine reamed to 50-95.
  3. I see you have a set of 58’s with short barrels for sale. Maybe interested in a package deal if I can swing it
  4. Well I suppose I could always buy him another 1858… or put a 5” barrel on the one he has. If you want to part with your setup, let me know?
  5. Appreciated but the Colts are pretty narrow compared to the Remington. I very much appreciate your kind offer though.
  6. Well, with wind like that the snow may fall in Wyoming but it’ll land in South Dakota!
  7. Like the ad states. My son is looking for a holster and belt for his newly acquired 58’ remmy conversion, 8” barrel. Anyone have one laying about? He’s a size 30 waist but will keep growing so nearly anything will work.
  8. Lovely! I’ve got one myself but it’s been circulated. What other years/mints have you got?
  9. And yet another update! New sights going on shortly (original marbles tang and a hooded front) and then some new furniture to wrap things up. Should make a nice elk hammer when done.
  10. .577 Howdah pistols allowed or no? They’d make power and smoke factor at least.
  11. Glad you found some. I shoot a ruger guide gun in 375R as my main hunting rifle and it’s a hammer.
  12. the problem with using HP to compare steam locomotives is you need to measure the ability to transfer that HP to the rails through tractive effort. In this case, the PRR kinda comes short in their claims. Q2 tractive effort = 100,816 lbf (without booster) / 115,816 lbf (with booster) UP Big Boy tractive effort = 135,375 lbf (602.18 kN) C&O Allegheny tractive effort = 110,211 lbf (490.24 kN) N&W Y6b tractive effort = Simple: 166,000 lbf (738.4 kN)) (Compound: 126,838 lbf (564.2 kN)) (as built 152,206 lbf (677.0 kN)) The Northern Pacific fielded the Yellowstone class 2-8-8-4’s (B&O called them EM-1’s) and had a tractive effort of 115,000 lbf (510 kN). that said, the Q’s were beasts for sure!
  13. I worked cleanup at the Savannah River Site for two years. Built in 1950, DOE relocated three whole towns offsite! Still in operation today. They are the nation’s only source of tritium and they once again are producing plutonium pits for warheads.
  14. Received on our end. Thanks to @ORNERY OAF for constant communication and quick shipping. We’re extremely happy with this shooter on our end. Thanks to the Wire for providing a safe place for transactions such as this.
  15. That’s a pretty sweet piece @Coot and I’d be interested if you had a price in mind. Get registered so you can post up.
  16. Hey @ORNERY OAF, we’ll take her in if you’ll let me know how to get funds to you via PM.
  17. @Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 not a huge fan of cauliflower but lightly boiled and salted broccoli and/or cauliflower are pretty good. Broccoli Rabe or Broccolini is another good one. Brussels sprouts are delicious when done properly; sautéed with a bit of sesame oil, some garlic and a piece of bacon then drizzle with balsamic. My wife taught me that one too. Mmmmm I stand by my earlier statement that eggplant is gross no matter how ya cook it.
  18. True story: when I was dating my wife I worked on a horse ranch and was paid accordingly. Meaning, not very much. Thus my darling future wife was always ready to bring something homemade and this famous (in our home at least) incident had her bring eggplant parmesan which I proceeded to dutifully have not one but two servings, eaten with great gusto and aplomb. Fast forward to a few years after into our happily wedded bliss when she served eggplant parmesan for what felt like the millionth time. It should be noted here that I hate eggplant in all its miserable forms as it has the consistency, to me, of being embedded with sand at the best and oowdered glass at the worst. Surprised when I told her how much I despised the vegetable, she of course brought up her initial experience with me and her famous dish and asked what had changed. I was caught out red-handed and had to admit that love will make men do the strangest things; even consume eggplant.
  19. A two seater honey wagon! Best way to make new friends?
  20. Kicked in the head by a horse hasn’t got a damn thing on putting your finger between a post driver and a t-post on a cold day. I had to sit down a minute before I could even begin to look over the damage done that day. Finger still hurts when I think about it.
