  1. No real passion either way since my Bengals' season ended. Kelce and his brother played their college ball at the University of Cincinnati. That's enough reason for me to cheer Chiefs. That, and the Ravens being a rebranded Browns that Fart Modell stole out of Cleveland in the middle of the night. Chiefs should be up by 20+ but keep shooting their own foot. I'll keep watching until supper is ready. This game isn't worth watching with a plate in my lap.
  2. My 94’s safety had a 1/8” deep by 1” diameter on the receiver’s right side. When the safety was pushed in it protruded 1/8” from the other side. It was the 1” recess that looked like a drained cyst which spoiled the gun’s looks. I had a Marlin in 38-55 which had a simple cross bolt safety with no recess. I used your I-ring idea and never had a problem with its aesthetics.
  3. My first CAS gun was a 94 in 44 mag, but it had the butt ugly cross bolt safety. I bought it at a gun show about a month after my soon-to-be-ex moved out. A Happy Divorce To Me present! It was slow but solid, and I had a ton of fun with it. Sold it after I slowed down on CAS shooting. Sometimes wish I still had it. Good for you and your find!
  4. Yes, I know what makes the snow and have done so myself a few times. But that’s not the ponderance of the moment. With a week of snow on the ground, every spot of yellow snow still shines. On Jack’s walks,, he stops at each spot for a moment. Why do some spots warrant a minor sniff and move one, some a deeper inhale, a few he buries his face in ecstasy, and he adds his own yellow to about half. What does he glean from yellow snow to elicit such diverse reactions?
  5. There’s a lot of truth to that line. I’ll be noodling on it today.
  6. Agreed. I haven’t used this particular gun, but the KelTek’s I’ve owned were entirely adequate for low cost plinking and fun. If a KelTec was all you could afford to buy, then it’s better than nothing. But it would not be my SHTF gun if at all possible.
  7. There’s a few Tennesseans who’ve lived here way longer than I have. Hoping they’ll chime in.
  8. My wife and I are looking at recreational properties in rural East Tennessee. Does anyone know if TN has a law like Texas where you need a minimum of ten acres to shoot a gun in unincorporated areas? Im mindful of safety, backstops, politeness with noise and all, but was curious about this facet.
  9. Favorite “# 2“? Anything that doesn’t leave a skid mark.
  10. Your source for this info is what? ”Stolen from the web” ranks up there with “My cousin says…” and “I heard…”.
  11. In the United States, it seems that we habitually walk on the right side of a hallway when there is two-way foot traffic. If two people are heading towards each they normally defer to the right. Do they defer to the left in the United Kingdom? A very Alpo-esque question but the thought crossed my mind while transiting ATL this morning.
  12. Starting the car and idling it are what the machine is designed to do. No harm there as long as the driver accounts for the exhaust fumes. Had an acquaintance who remote started her car not knowing her husband had parked it in the garage. Lots of stinkiness but nobody was hurt. Could have been much worse.
  13. Except for the bowl games which constitute the playoffs, everything else is becoming a glorified scrimmage among second tier players. College football is losing me.
  14. I agree that too much of a good thing can be bad. I just haven’t found where the line is for “too much bacon”.
  15. I think the Marlin 94 in 357/44mag were some of the finest rifles ever made. (…along with the 39a, 336, and 1895. I have at least one of each, all pre-safety.) Here’s to hoping that Ruger can restore the Marlin name. I look forward to hearing a test report.
  16. Contact your local woodworking club to see if they’ll put you in touch with a member who can do what you want.
  17. Browning. Colt. Thompson. Garand. Ruger. Barrett. Glock. That’s some heady company right there. Men whose inventions bore their names, changed the face of firearms, and live on way past their deaths. Yes, I know Ronnie Barrett is still alive, but he’s worthy of being in that group.
  18. Interesting. I’d always attributed that quote to Winston Churchill. I’m more learned now than five minutes ago.
  19. Empty chamber indicator reduces chance of an AD while she’s looking at her phone, making googly eyes at her boyfriend, or chatting with friends. But I guarantee she’s been trained in an immediate action drill to flick out the indicator and close the bolt in fractions of a second. It’s a good compromise in my opinion. Others can disagree.
  20. Almost spit coffee at this one, Doc. I remember flying gunnery exercises at Grafenwoehr in the snow. Our scout aircraft used the rim road to navigate to various ranges just like the armor and mech infantry units. We were maybe 200’ AGL looking down at the tread heads in the snow and mud and thinking “Sure sucks down there.” as I turned the heater up.
  21. My stock answer is, “It was a privilege to have served.”
