Not sure. Gold is Command Color, and she WAS supposed to be about 4th in the Chain of Command. I think, just because that's what they did back then, they probably just handed her a gold uniform to wear.

Yes and no. For about ten years or so before that it was Global Warming causing them. I'm pretty sure that in the 1970s it was the onset of the new Ice Age. Before THAT, nobody knows.
