Ok, I did not pay close enough attention to the new power point style ROI manual as well as I should have, but this question appears to be answered quite well on page 69, second bullet point two: "Inadvertantly left rounds in a revolver are misses..." My apparently not as sharp as I would like memory did not recall the "inadvertant' descriptor in the former lists of 5 second penalties for rounds left unfired in revolvers. Thanks for your input fellas, now I'd better concentrate more on finding that elusive tenth piece of brass. Thanks SS

From my perspective as an observing, waiting brass picker. Shooter is engaging a 10 pistol string. First pistol goes as planned. Second pistol refuses to light off one round. Shooter goes around, seems like a couple times. (bad primer, multiple thumb interferences, unknown reason, ?) Instead of declaring a malfunction, or just giving up on the round, shooter reaches for his belt and loads the empty chamber of the offending pistol and engages his last target (I assume to maintain his clean match), then continues with the stage. My question is: since no malfunction was declared, which would have negated any penalty in the offending gun for an unfired round, does the shooter earn the "unfired round" five second penalty for, essentially, the sixth round in the pistol that didn't get fired? Or can a malfunctioning portion of the cylinder be implied, rendering the penalty moot? Or am I just thinking to much? (lets assume the live round wasn't holstered under the hammer) It would seem that if the shooter had declared the malfunction, and chose to load one in the first pistol to clean his string, then, all would be well. What say you? SS

I have a Cody '73 carbine and a super short stroked '66 sporting rifle. The Cody rifle is super smooth and the '66 is fairly smooth. I can run sub 3 multi-tap sweeps with either rifle from the shoulder. I find no significant advantage to either action. I, however find that I perform better with the carbine due to it's weight and agility compared to the longer heavier rifle. I have to agree with the others. Smoother is better. I don't think that, unless you are one of those shooters blessed with large hands that can run a rifle like it was a pair of scissors, you will find any help in minimum stroke over what you already possess. As GJ indicated, trigger coordination is a big key to speed. I've realized more improvement with trigger tuning and parts than with different short stroke dimensions. Good Luck SS

Something material for Veterans
Silver Shadow replied to Cheyenne Ranger, 48747L's topic in SASS Wire
Sportsman's will accept most anything, even your word occasionally. ie: DD214(copy is fine), VA ID card, Drivers License with "Veteran", even had them accept my VFW member card once. Home Depot and Lowe's want picture ID. You can go to your local VA office and they will make you an ID card. My local one in Idaho is willing to do it even if your not eligible for, or of a mind(I know people who aren't) to use VA medical benefits. In CA you can get a form from your county veterans service officer, fill it out and take it to the Drivers License office and have it added to your license. Obviously an active or retired ID card will work to. Good Luck and thanks for your service. SS -
Something material for Veterans

Lowe's, Home Depot, and 5% at Sportsman's Warehouse are veteran's discount stores I frequent. Ironic note: Lowe's and Home Depot will not accept a DD214 as proof of service, but, that is what I had to show the DMV to have veteran printed on my driver's licence, which they readily accept. Heartbreaking story: Last time I went in Sportsman's and bought a pound of powder, I handed my driver's licence to the attractive young lady behind the counter and she said "I don't need your drivers licence, I'm sure your old enough to buy powder.". I explained I was handing her my licence to show I was a veteran. She was thoroughly embarrassed, but I was crushed. I only have a few gray hairs, how did she know I was old enough? Thank You all for your service. SS -
I've been anti Bruce Dern since the very first time I saw the Cowboys. In fact I've been known to turn a movie off when I saw his name in the credits. I have to say though, I did feel sympathy for his character in Nebraska.

A while back a thread was started concerning Herter's Low Recoil Shotgun Shells available from Cabela's. A couple people were having trouble getting them to shuck. I mentioned that I had been using them on and off for about a year, and have been very happy with them especially at a price point of $5.70 a box. Recently I attended a shoot where the temperature was warmer than I have experienced since shooting these shells. The outside temperature was around 90 and, being it was a travel shoot, the shells were living in the warm car. Whatever the reason, I could not get these Herter's shells to shuck reliably. On the drive home I speculated maybe the heat had been the reason for the problems. So at the next weeks local shoot where the temps were 90+, I decided to test my theory by putting a box of Herter's in my cooler and see if that made any difference. Temperature outside similar, same shotgun in the same condition, humidity ?, shells cooled in the top of a cooler on ice. Not one problem with shucking. My thought is that these Herter's shells don't perform well in our game at high temperatures. I don't know why for sure, maybe it softens the plastic enough to allow it to expand more, or possibly the powder, used in them, is somewhat temperature sensitive and is pressuring a little higher at high temps, or maybe a combination of both. Your guess is probably better than mine. Opinion: At normal temperatures in Northern climes, I think these shells are very good option especially for the price. In Southern climes, maybe not, unless you want to use a cooler. Is it worth it to me to chill these things out on a hot day? I think I'll try it(partly because I have a couple cases of these things, and also because I like the 1 1/8 oz loads over featherlites). As they say "Your mileage may vary." Just my view from the road SS

Mary, we had a wonderful time meeting and shooting with you and Buick, and all our new friends from Posse 5. Here are the videos we took of the Cowboy match. Silver Shadow and The Allen Street Contessa -
I clean cylinders and lube them with bore butter for storage. I load real black powder-grits-ball-then straight crisco over. I use grits to avoid a ball to powder gap with the short charging reach when loading in frame, also takes less grease to seal the chamber with the ball at the end. I don't generally pop a cap on empty chambers to prep for loading. I've loaded enough cylinders to shoot six stages in my loading room in Idaho and spent 5 days driving/sightseeing/etc to distant shoots and never had any degradation in powder performance or chain fire issues (knock on wood). Right, wrong, or indifferent, it's worked for me. SS

I have to second this motion. wholeheartedly. I can only hope to follow FJT's example as a Posse Marshall if ever I'm called upon to perform such a task. BOOYAHHH!!! Silver "unofficial president of the unofficial Soda Springs, ID chapter of the Frederick Jackson Turner Fan Club" Shadow -

I have the Dillon case feeder on mine, and if I'm not diligent in watching the case fall through the bushing on the feed arm, a case will hang in the bushing and it will skip feeding maybe one in twenty. It seems worse with new Starline. I also get the occasional case caught in the hopper wheel at the exit. A new problem that developed recently is that the the metal tab that actuates the feed on/off switch in the upper tube has apparently become week and after a couple hundred cases pass through it, it bends enough to not shut the feed off and jams the tube with cases. My point is not to knock the Dillon case feeder, but, to say that shelling out the money to replace yours, may not eliminate all your problems. YMMV SS

Low Velocity Shotshell - Didn't Work Well
Silver Shadow replied to Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933's topic in SASS Wire
I have to agree with Dave, I do find a certain amount of inconsistency in recoil. My wife shoots Win AA feather lites, and I felt the Herters were compatible, so i had her try some, and she got thumped hard enough to dissuade her from using them. That being said, I have to go along with the appeal of the price point. So for me I think I'll try some more. I tried the Federal Top Guns in the Red White and Blue version and had some shucking problems, seemed like more with the white ones for some reason. SS -
Low Velocity Shotshell - Didn't Work Well
Silver Shadow replied to Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933's topic in SASS Wire
I used Herters exclusively at Winter Range this year. Never had a shucking problem at all. Larson mentioned the expanding brass causing friction. That seems curious to me. I don't doubt that they expand, but my Baikal extractor pushes the brass portion free of the chamber before I even begin to shuck. Maybe that's the difference. Do the SKBs not extract the shell as far? Curiously SS -

Oklahoma Dee, it was a pleasure. It was great to meet you and shoot with you. I hope our trails cross again sometime. Congratulations on your win, you deserved it. Hey, 12, it was wonderful to see you two again. End of The Road is going to be a hoot this year, and having you two there, will just make it that much better. Hopefully we'll see you around some Utah shoots also. I will certainly give her a hug for you. Please pass along one to Pat from me.

Thanks Griz. I was thrilled to get a chance to say hi to you. It really made my day. I hate to admit it, but my memory isn't so good either, so I cheat a little. I'll write down names and descriptions in my shooters book, and take a picture of the posse list, and cross reference what I hear on the video with posted scores to try and help with the tough ones. Keep up the great videos. I want to try some hat cam stuff soon myself, and I got a little camera drone for Christmas that I want to try some aerial shots. Looking forward to seeing you in July. Part of the work you've done or had done to make your rifle "smooth as glass" has contributed to your lighter trigger pull. I've found, on the 92's, that I have worked on for people that: If a the person has used their 92 in the "out of the box" condition for very long, they have grown accustomed to the heavy trigger pull and most likely developed some habits that deal with it. Those habits don't seem to translate well to the lighter trigger that is a result of spring changes and smoothing. You can put the flat spring back in the trigger and it shouldn't affect your "smoothness" very much, if at all, but it will stiffen the trigger a little. It won't, however bring it back to where it was. If you can't get used to the lighter trigger, you could possibly get a custom trigger spring that would bring it up to original specs and still have a smooth rifle, otherwise you'll have to start changing hammer spring tensions and you will start feeling that in the action. I think that if you can spend some time retraining your finger, you'll will probably grow to enjoy your lighter trigger. Good Luck and Good Shooting SS

Some figure that rifles with ejectors should be in a separate division of the category from those using rifles with just extractors.
