  1. Chamber and shoot yes. Feeding may be another story. Could it be made to work with a few modifications? Yes.
  2. I think the '73 hammer looks terrible in a '66.
  3. Wow Yul, that cart looks amazing. I literally don't have the words to express my gratitude for what you have done for him or what you do for the sport. This is so much more than an awesome guncart, it's knowledge passed on and time spent together that will last forever.
  4. Larsen is correct. Even without the pin the bushing should register flush with the frame. Is the entire bushing sunken evenly or is it concave like it was forced into the bore by an overcharge? How far from flush is it?
  5. Running the guns fast did not cause this. If the retaining pin is not missing completely (I very seriously doubt that it is) I would look that gun over really carefully and measure to make sure that the frame did not stretch.
  6. Have you possibly switched cylinders between 2 pistols by accident?
  7. Titanium firing pins are allowed and available. A titanium hammer would probably not work very well.
  8. That was my understanding as well, thank you Palewolf.
  9. I have the pocket pro and I like it and it has served me well for a few years but if I had it to do again, I think I would buy the pact club timer just because it displays the first shot and last split right in the main screen. I think the pocket pro 2 does that also but not sure.
  10. Take this for what it's worth and yes, any practice is better than no practice but paper targets will not allow you to practice at the speed you will run on steel. Your mind will react faster and you will shoot faster shooting at a steel target than you will at a paper one. The sound of the steel ringing will actually speed you up.
  11. SASSmandated standard weight parts? That's a new one for me. I am curious who this shooter is.
  12. When I have had go arounds and there was not a mechanical failure of the gun, it has always been operator error. My timing was off or my technique was bad. Lock time has never been a contributing factor for me. Also, I pull the trigger for the first shot on each target and depending on other factors, sometimes slip hammer multiple shots on the same target. One pair of my pistols is short stroked and the other is not. I believe Deuce runs full stroke pistols.
  13. Sounds to some like you have a broken gun.
  14. In my opinion the lock time argument is a sales gimmick and nothing more. I have seen some very lightly sprung guns run extremely fast. I am not saying that it's not possible to outrun ahammer with a light spring, but if there are shooters who can they are damn few and I have not met any.
  15. I found that bead blasting my receiver barrel and rear sight (polished the back edge of front sight) helped a lot with glare and made finding the front sight much faster.
  16. In a derringer side match, I always set the lower barrel to fire first. The lower bore axis causes less perceived recoil and less barrel flip than the higher one will. Leverage is the biggest difference.
  17. Here it is. http://www.thegunshop918.com/
  18. I was wanting to shoot the derringer side match at an annual but didn't have a derringer. A friend offered me his but said that it's 44/40 and only shoots black powder. Sounded fun enough. The winning target that year had powder burns on it. 😬
  19. You are siting an intro which is not a rule and carries no penalty..... Next shooter.
  20. Creek County Kid in Oklahoma makes some pretty trick brass front sights that in my opinion look 10x better than the covers.
  21. I just had that same thought a few minutes ago. May be driving from now on.
  22. I would not consider anything but a bond. And .45 in a derringer is not that bad.
  23. I'd loan ya the cowboy guns you need just 'cause I like ya.
  24. Yes, none of these things are hard fast rules and not all suggestions will work for every shooter. I used to have trouble with pistol dumps and would avoid them when possible as well. For me it was a purely mental challenge as there is no reason that a sweep should be faster other than that I was doing something wrong when dumping.
  25. When a newer shooter or any of us who are trying to improve our game watch more experienced shooters run a stage, we look at what they are doing and often try to incorporate things they do into our own game. What they are doing is usually pretty easy to see but it's what they are not doing sometimes that makes a big part of the difference. The idea behind this thread is to compile a list of things not to do that we may commonly see people doing. Here are a few off the top of my head that I see often. don't lever your rifle until it is in your shoulder. Doing it on the way up slows you down and I have seen it cause a round to go over the berm a few times. another one I see commonlybis when the pistol sweep is 10 on 3, I see a lot of people engaging more than one target with both guns. You only have to engage 2 targets with one gun and one with the other. Minimizing target transition time safes time. when there are 2 pairs of shotgun targets and you happen to miss one of the first 2 shots with a sxs, move on to the other pair with the next 2 shots, then reload again and go back to the one standing. Taking the makeup right away makes you swing more between shots and costs time. Make the big swings whenever possible while reloading. So what are some common mistakes you see made? I really think this thread could be benificial to a lot of people.
