  1. Congratulations to Matt Black. World Record Stage, 4th Overall World Champion, and 6 fastest stages at 2019 EOT. It was fun seeing you again!!! You too Colt.
  2. But will the ap get there in time. Paid over $25 for two day delivery with Fed Ex. Did not want to take a chance. It is worth it. Great match. Cannot wait!!!!!
  3. My Fed Ex fee was close to my entry fee. What ever happened to a stamp!!!!!!!
  4. SASS Kicker and Cody Women's Overall Winter Range in 2016
  5. This is outstanding. The history of what we are so excited about. Wish my family could have meet China Camp.. Remarkable video. Didn't see pictures of to many young shooters. Hope more people contribute. Thanks to those who are sharing.
  6. Our competition rifles are by Palo Verde Gunworks. When you go to someone like Rich, he is fine tuning that rifle for world class shooters. He stands by his work and is completing the work himself. He puts in both 4th and 5th generation actions. You do need to shoot other rifles and feel the difference. Often it is the personal touch that makes a difference. I highly recommend you shoot various rifles before you spend the money.
  7. While I am in favor of total time, I want to congratulate all the champions of rank point matches. I believe rank pt matches are very strategic in knowing how to shoot them and can understand their challenge. Just to help those that are having a tough time understanding the problem shooters have with rank points, I want to share the difference between two stages and times at EOT. On stage 7 a score of 21.18 had 199 rank pts. On the same stage a 5+/- second faster score of 16.17 had 36 rank points. In the 5 second difference there were 163 shooters who shot between the 5 second difference equaling 163 rank pts. On stage 6 a score of 31.41 had 200 rank pts. while a 5 second faster score of 26.38 had 88 rank pts, there was a 112 pt difference. A miss, fumbled shotgun reload, rifle jam cost more on stage 7 than stage 6 costing the shooter 51 more rank pts. A championship won in the 1990's is just as hard to win as championship win in 2017. While I know there is more to it than this one illustration, I hope it helps understand the differences in opinions.
  8. Congratulations and continued success. Thank you for everything you do from the whole family. See you at Winter Range!!
  9. SASS is an incredible organization. We have been fortunate to have met so many great friends through SASS. Thank you for your responses. Allie Mo, we would enjoy with you some day.
  10. Thank you for the recognition of the champions at EOT in the January Chronicle. As a proud father this was nice to see. It also was very informative to learn more about Missouri Lefty. The chronicle also was informative of the other champions at state, regional, divisional and national champions. Thank you for your hard work and recognition. Always enjoy see how other shooters are competing across the world.
  11. Congratulations-What a beautiful firearm. Glad it worked out.
  12. Great rifle-However, some of the rifle barrels did however have a problem when they shipped them off to be engraved. I had to send two out of four I purchased back to Marlin due to corrosion inside the barrel. They did take care of me and I was impressed with their service. One of the shops in Prescott AZ also had the same problem. Several of my friends also purchased that model and did not have a problem. They are incredible firearms and I now wish they had just replaced the barrels.
  13. I always thought it was, "the older I get the better I was."
  14. Case gauge all ammo and use new brass for a big match. We use a funnel to listen for powder in every case. Check every primer to see if it is properly seated. Inspect each case for problems.
  15. I remember with Quigley Down Under came out and the waiting list for a C or Shiloh Sharps went to a 5 years. Shortly after that the prices started rising. One nice thing about it was you could put down a deposit and get the price locked in with a C Sharps and they would notify you of a price increase. C Sharps make it so you had the opportunity to pay it off in case of an increase. I seem to remember the price increased a bit before I received the rifle and it was a great investment. My wife let me know it is only an investment if you a willing to sell.
  16. It would be interesting to see what the top 16 shooters prefer.
  17. As many of you know SASS Kicker and Cody James grandparents, John and Jerry Ryan, attended every World, National, and State Cowboy Action Championship. Unfortunately, John Ryan passed away yesterday of a heart attack. Having John and Jerry at these events was like having your own cheer squad at a Cowboy Action Shoot. SASS Kicker stayed her junior and senior years with John and Jerry to attend a more rigorous high school in Phoenix and prepare her for a career in medicine. SASS Kicker wrote in the January 2017 Cowboy Chronicle, I have grown so close to my family and the many SASS members that I also consider family. Thank you everyone for your support in making SASS a family affair. John Ryan loved what we do, and loved the cowboy way!
  18. As some of you know we all shoot Ruger's in competition, but I love the feel of a Colt. Just had Bob James do an action job last year on a Colt I purchased some 20 years ago. Incredible! It is an early 3rd and I will be shooting it. It was unfired and paid $850. A few years later I purchased a 5 1/2 inch early 3rd in 44-40 with an extra 44 special cylinder for $1250. Both were unfired. Every once in while I check to see what the Brokers are selling them for and was wondering why the sudden increase. Thanks for your responses.
  19. Was just looking at the price of a 3rd gen SAA Colt on several of the firearm brokers and it appears the price of a new or like new Colt has gone up significantly. There appears to be a lot for sale. I read earlier that the Colt factory is not manufacturing as many single action firearms and only in a few calibers. The prices listed are over $2000 for an early third or new Colt in just about any caliber or barrel length. Are there any new recent developments, or is just supply and demand?
  20. Congratulations from all of us. Look forward to seeing you at Winter Range.
  21. Winter Range has been incredibly generous with their awards and items they have given for participation. The Range Bags last year are a reminder of our participation every time we load up to go shooting. We have Winter Range gun cases and sleeves. We have even won nice items at Winter Range. But most importantly they give us an opportunity to shoot in a National Championship with friends from all over the world. The Winter Range workers are some of the most hard working individuals I have ever meet. They make huge efforts to make this a memorable match. Thank you for all you do!!!!
  22. I like Smokestack's idea. ACSA and Cowtown have Shootist categories which takes the pressure off the same shooters winning their categories every year or switching to another category which they will often win. You always know how you stack up against all your competition by your overall scores. Sounds like a fun challenge Smokestack. Great idea. It is all fun.

    Side by Side

Call Johnny Meadows at Camp Verde Gunworks. He will advise you according to your budget. All of us shoot SKB 100's.
  24. I would hope that those who make the decisions in SASS would look into the finals of EOT and into Bud's idea. I do not want to take away from Savage Sam's championship. He won it under the current rules that have been used for years and is the champion. I do believe that any contest should evaluate the results and see if the rules are turning out the outcome they are trying to achieve such as the fastest, most consistent etc....When you look at the total times of the no. 2 and 4 shooter overall and the no. of stages won by these shooters, I do see a situation that needs attention and Bud's proposal should be looked at.
