    Breaking News!

We broke 700!! We have 704 entered for The SASS National Championship. Check the link here:  shooter list, to see who's coming. It will be a great time with fast stages and two new social events. The shrimp boil, margarita night and cocktail hour along with a cigar for those who choose. I know the match is a several months away, but we can feel the excitement building.

PS: feel free to tell your friends.

Excellent news over 700 already. Who's coming list has home state included thank you.

    LAND RUN UPDATE

It has been seven days since we opened registration and we have 691 shooters registered to date. We are about 30 shooters short of our target of 720. 44 states are represented , with Texas leading the way with 169 shooters and Oklahoma second with 86 and Colorado and Kansas rounding out the top four with 37 and 35 respectively. A current shooter list will be posted soon.

    Thanks,

    Flat Top Okie

Will the state each shooter is from be added to the list?

  3. Maybe just write the stage to where everything is staged on the table, and guns may be returned to the table or holstered?

You could do this, BUT IMO best remind the GF he must use both hands. I can see where the GF sets up his gun to shoot Duelist and uses both with strong hand. Yes he should know the rules. BUT I've seen it happen and get called.

  4. Jim Martin for all of his action work uses main springs from Superior Industries in L.A. No one knows their way around a Colt SAA better than Jim, so if their his choice they have to be about as good as you can get.

    Best regards,

Can you provide a link please. Can't find them on the web.

    Thanks

  5. Again, well and good. BUT, our matches are shot on TWO bays, just changing scenarios, using the same target setups. We can't put anything on the range unless we are shooting it. We don't have the afternoon before the shoot to use the range. It is open to "casual" shooting by other club members. At the end of our shooting day, the range is again, turned over to casual shooting. We've explored this from every angle, and decided it isn't worth persuing. "Nuff said!! No annual. SASS Hq isn't interested in us, thus we aren't interested in them as our governing body. We still practice the "Cowboy Way", just don't pay them for the privlige.

What does an annual have to do with the fee?

Have you ever been part of putting one on and know the cost?

What would you like Sass to do for you and your range problem, negotiate with them?

I have been apart of it and let me say it's not easy and it's costly. Our club did not make money in fact members put up there own money.

  6. I do not want to say the Smiths name. As he is highly respected in CAS. I'm just at a loss of what to do. I could try a different spring from someone else and see if it breaks. If not then something going on with the Smiths springs. If it breaks something in the gun is putting tremendous stress on the spring.

  7. +1 on the Wolff springs I have them in my Colts and Uberti's!

Did your gunsmith replace the springs? My gunsmith used to file the Colt springs down until we both discovered Wolff springs. The question is why are the Colt springs breaking?? I have NEVER broken a Colt mainspring and I've had Colts for 20 years!!

Yes he works the springs. I keep hearing how they should not break. I'll have to get insight. Idk why they keep on breaking. This is a recognized smith and I love my Colts I just don't like the spring going.

  8. Hello,

I have a pair of 3rd Gen Colts 357. They are several years old with action job's from a top Gunsmith. I keep breaking the main hammer spring 2 or so a year. Now I keep hearing how this spring should not go. Any ideas, who does your springs?

  9.

    Southpaw, not a leftie, please!

I am one of the rarest of minorities. I am a conservative, gun owning, pro-life, republican, born again fundamental baptist. From Massachusetts. Don't tell me I am not a minority. :)

That being said, I should point out that Colt SAA's (and clones) are not legal to sell in this state. They are an unsafe design. You can only buy one used if the seller can prove that it was registered in the state prior to a certain date. (I forget exactly what it is.) The only way around that is if they happen to be C&R. In a rare moment of sanity, the legislature clarified the C&R exemption a couple of years ago.

That makes it difficult to grow the sport.

  10. The concept of trying to keep the shells spaced correctly from the belt, bando or whatever your using to the chambers while also trying to get max speed has never made sense to me I guess. I let the gun do that and try to do everything else as efficiently as possible. When someone shows me different on the timer I'll starting thinking about changing and teaching differently.

I can only speak from my experience and my technique. But when I use a double pouch or a single loop that places the brass touching my shells will split apart.

  11. Your choice of single vs. double loop pouches should be determined by how you grab the shells. I grab them from the side between the forefinger and thumb of my weak hand. For that reason a double pouch works best for me. If you grab them from the top with your middle finger between the shells with your strong hand, single loops would probably work best for you. Here's a Longhunter video of both techniques. (Even though he uses the same belt for both.)

Different strokes as they say. I load thumb behind shells with weak hand and prefer the single loop. Imo the single loop when spaced correctly gives the perfect amount of space between the shells to load they just rock right in.

Mu suggestion as with most things try both and see what you like.
