  1. No, a man has to know his limitations, and I don't plan on having to deal with taking those apart any more often than needed. Just swapping out the grip frames will probably take me hours, moderate cursing and perhaps a scrape or two.
  2. I have a question for the Wire braintrust. I'm working on a Single Six project which is nearing completion. I have two Single Sixes, one with the larger grip frame and a Jimmy Spurs action job and one with the smaller grip frame and no action job. The plan is to convert the small grip frame to a large grip frame, send them both to Snake Oil George for Octagon barrels, then get Jimmy to work his magic on the remaining one. I have a stainless OMV grip frame arriving tomorrow which I'll swap out for the smaller grip frame. My question is, will the hammer strut and spring from the smaller grip frame work in the larger one, or will I need to purchase a new hammer strut, shoe and spring?
  3. You feel free to stay in 49er as long as you like Stan. Senior is much too slow and boring for you. I’m sure you wouldn’t like it nearly as much as 49er…
  4. The one I had came with screw in choke tubes and felt heavier than any other SKB I’ve handled.
  5. I started as a Wrangler and am already a Senior, which is hard to believe.
  6. I don't know, it's so far away. It will take the Burt Bunch at least 25 minutes to drive to one of the funnest matches in the southeast. Let me think about it....yeah, all of us will be there!
  7. I agree. Why would categories matter other than to ‘shop’? If a specific category doesn’t fill I’m sure those who registered for that category will get ample notice given the match is already almost full and we’re still 9 months out.
  8. I occasionally find unfired rounds after wet tumbling. It never occurred to me to try and fire them, they go in the trash.
  9. There’s no need for experiments. Widder has provided the answer. Go back and look at the top ten finishers at EOT for the last ten years or so and count how many of them were shooting a 92 or a Lightning. I’m pretty sure the number you will come up with is zero.
  10. I’m in the ‘it’s your gun do as you please’ camp.
  11. That sounds about right. Out of curiosity what are the trigger pulls?
  12. Different shooters will have different needs. I run Jimmy Spurs NMVs. The springs are very light, probably in the 14 lb range. They work for me. Iron Cowboy OTH doesn't like his that light, he says he out runs the springs (I believe him). I took out the springs that came with his NMVs (the gunsmith had cut them so short we were getting occasional failure to fire) and replaced them with 19 lb springs, which are just right, for him.
  13. On the other end of the spectrum I'm fond of my Ponsness Warren 800+. I flip a switch, insert a wad, repeat.
  14. I’m glad to see Shootin Sharyn and I are on the Shooter’s list!
  15. I’m looking for a stainless steel grip frame for an original model Vaquero or Single Six (the longer frame).
