  1. Don’t care and definitely won’t be ‘taking extra care’, wearing a mask, getting a booster or any other stupid crap. Plenty of sunshine, plenty of exercise, good food and good rest.
  2. I’m going to differ, respectfully. I’m glad when people show up, whether they’re competitive or not. Most folks I shoot with at monthlies (major matches are a different situation) are not competitive, at least not with me. I bring my competition with me to every match, me and often Iron Cowboy. The next match I shoot at there will probably be 30 or so shooters. Maybe 10 of those will be in it to win it and 20 will be there to hang out with pards and shoot. The latter group won’t be competitive for a variety of reasons, gun choices, shooting style choices, age, no interest in practicing, no natural talent, it’s a long list. But many are friends and I really enjoy spending a day in their company. For that reason I’m thankful they spend their time and money to be in the game. It’s worthy of note to me because they could have done something easier, cheaper or both. I think style points is an expression some people use to communicate part of what motivates them to be on the range. Dressing up like cowboys and playing with their toys. I look around today and realize about a third of the country hates our guts. They would happily take away our guns, our cars, our liberty, heck even our gas stoves and foods of choice. Some would be happy to see us all dead. We can’t afford to let relatively small differences drive wedges between us. Yeah, we do get a few bad apples. Yeah there can be a few folks on the range that I wouldn’t piss on their head to put out a fire, but by and large we’re all cowboys and I have to believe this game typically attracts good people. It’s too easy to forget that when we’re interacting online. Something about that type of interaction can bring out the worst in us. I definitely have been guilty of that, more than once. Gamers, this weekend if you’re lucky enough to get in some CAS, tell one of the ‘I’m just in it for fun crowd’ that you appreciate them being there. ‘Just for fun’ shooters, pick out a gamer and do the same thing. We can afford to take a moment and put a smile on someone’s face. Free bonus, you’ll find it makes you smile too.
  3. Why didn't I think to mention that. It's letter E. Thanks Randy!
  4. We're up to 23, which is considerably ahead of last year's pace. I have the clean match pins in hand and have already ordered the participation pins. Buckles will be customized by category, so I'll be placing that order most likely by early February. Any categories added after that point will not have customized buckles. The final deadline for registering will be the Ides of March. There will be someone there to collect apps before the first round of the main match goes down range which is when registration will close. FYI, if you register for the South Carolina Bushwhack before February 1st you can vote for 5 of the 10 main match stages. Vote for mine! It will be the one that's a slightly modified progressive sweep. (E). You have to choose between four shots on the far pistol target and four shots on the near rifle target, OR four shots on the near pistol target and four shots on the far rifle target. 1,2,3,4,4,3,2,1 OR 4,3,2,1,1,2,3,4. Almost forgot, this is open to all SASS shooters, not just those who live in the South East Region, so come on down and play!! Merry Christmas!
  5. I agree. I've seen some very nice 66's and 73's. What I haven't seen is very many good looking Marlins. They're out there, but few and far between.
  6. I will take two of the Ruger wood Gunfighter grips. PM me where to send the $70.
  7. Here’s your answer. Harder to set up to run fast and harder to learn to run fast with no upside other than subjective looks, and only one reloading option, over the top.
  8. That’s not where you need to be holding the rifle. Having the pivot point that far back on the rifle creates a see-saw effect with the muzzle. I like to index on the cap, which the 60 doesn’t have. To a bottom third shooter the fraction of a second you lose probably doesn’t matter, but to a shooter who wants to finish first it does. Does a ‘60 even come with an 18 inch barrel?? I assume reloading over the top is the only option?
  9. I’m going to miss Clays. I’m thinking I can top off my powder hopper one more time then it’s Titewad time.
  10. I've been running 12.2 of Clays, but that's about gone, so I bought a big jug of Titewad. I plan to try that at 12.2 and see how it goes. Both of those are a couple of grains below the minimum published load.
  11. My situation is unique in a couple of ways. First, I’m reloading for several people. On a slow month we go through 11 boxes. Sharyn and I shooting four matches each, Iron Cowboy shooting two and Kid Flash shooting one. On a busy one we go through 14 boxes 4-4-4-2. If it’s a busy month with a major match we go through 16+ boxes. Lethal Lizzie doesn’t shoot much, maybe 5-6 matches a year. In a year we probably go through at least 20 cases, maybe 25. I don’t buy hulls, I buy new Remington GC in minimum lots of 5 cases. November and December are factory months when I’m accumulating once fired hulls for major matches. A box of shells probably costs me about $7-$8 to reload, so I’m probably saving $2-3 per box times 200-250 boxes so call it $500-$750 a year saved. When it comes to CAS, we spend a fair amount of money. Second, a pard gifted me with a Ponsness Warren 800 plus a while back and then gave me an auto drive this year, so reloading effort consists of placing a wad then flipping the switch. I can reload a case of hulls in about 30 minutes. Finally there’s recoil. My loads are probably clocking in at about 950 fps vs factory loads at 1145 fps. Iron Cowboy and I don’t care much either way, but Shootin Sharyn, Kid Flash and Lethal Lizzie do.
  12. I think I look good no matter what kind of rifle I'm wearing. That's what Mom told me and I know she wouldn't lie!

Kickoff is Florida State, Awards at Tennessee State, prizes at every match. Entry fee $20 Non profit!! Each state match shot earns one prize entry so more matches attended increases the chance of a prize. 2nd place badges by Buffalo's Wild West and yours truly. Clean match pins (clean for all three qualifying matches) Magnificent 7 participant pin If you would like to shoot a category that isn't listed, please write it in on the app. If I get enough interest in a category to cover a buckle we'll add it. I would like to think everyone who chipped in with thoughts on how to score this match. After careful consideration I've decided to stick with match points as it was calculated last year. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good and reasonably easy to understand. All Around Cowboy requirements. All Around Cowboy participants must shoot three matches utilizing three of the following four shooting styles: Traditional, Duelist, Gunfighter and Outlaw. Participants may compete in All Around Cowboy AND a 'typical' category if they shoot enough qualifying matches. For example, @Badlands Bob #61228 could shoot three matches Gunfighter, and two matches using two of the other three shooting styles (Duelist, Traditional and Outlaw) and he would be eligible for both the Gunfighter AND All Around Cowboy buckle. Last year was a lot of fun. We had right at 60 competitors. I'm hoping for closer to 80 this time. This year we have a website. It's still under construction...thanks Tyrel Cody!! http://southeastopenmagnificentseven.com/ Magnificent Seven 2024.pdf
