  1. It gives added feeling of security. Mine has been in two different trucks, both with shells with no windows. Currently it's mounted on a cargo glide so the entire vault comes out. I did this to have dead space under the vault so I can use the tailgate to work on guns, yet still open the drawers.

We've stayed in hotels with the guns locked up. I feel comfortable in knowing people can't see what is in the bed, if the vault was visible, I wouldn't feel comfortable.

Cons, they take up a lot of space, however I can still sleep in the bed if needed.

  2. I've used them, yes they work, but expect more fouling and loss of accuracy. Lubed is a far better choice. Besides loss of accuracy and more sticky guns, cleaning the rifle bore is more of a chore. The fouling is like cement, not soft or softer like when using lubed.

If you swab the bore's every couple of stages it will help. The only reason I used them is because it's what I had on hand at the time, Now I still have a bunch loaded that I hesitate to use since going to lubed bullets for BP.

All that said I've been able to shoot local 6 stage matches with closer targets clean using poly coated bullets and no lube, but on a hot day with more distant targets.......ouch....I couldn't hit a thing!

  3. Thanks for everyone's input.

I am curious about the couple of Glock comments.

Are you saying they shoot out of a Glock barrel with zero build up??

Although I've shot them trough my Glock with good results, I have not shot enough to comment on build up and long term effects. Really don't shoot the Glock much. My online research prior to shooting them through the Glock was very favorable and mostly from IDPA forms and the likes.

See below link from Eggleston bullets in regards to poly and lead in polygonal rifling. Lead Ringer, sorry for the link to a competitor, but it's good information.

  4. Any comments about condition of the bore compared to lubed?

I've been shooting SNS castings poly coated bullets since they started making them. Not sure how they compare to Hi-Tek. There's been no issues with leading in my bores at all. Everything stays cleaner, dies, hands and guns. They can be a bit slick to pick up, but that's an acceptable issue. And shoot well out of my Glock 34 with polygonal rifling as mentioned above.

My 1911 chamber seems to stay much cleaner with the poly coated bullets as well.

Even tried them with BP in 44-40 and .38's, at local matches with close targets they've work well. Typically I get through a whole match without much fouling. Longer target distances on hot days, that's a different story all together. As expected accuracy diminishes after a few stages rather quickly without lube.
