As mentioned in the Motorcycles thread, the time has come for me to part with my Indian. 1946 Indian Chief - $33,000 Complete restoration with engine rebuild in 1998 by Indian Engineering in Stanton California. Strong running 80 Cubic Inch motor. Starts with one kick after priming procedure. Extras include: Chumee (two passenger) seat with bracket and springs.   2. I have been aware of the 12 volt starter system for a number of years and have seen one installed. For me, it kind of takes away some of the mystique of the old 6 volt system. Also, my Indian is 80 Cu In with more compression than the 74 Cu In motor so the starter will have a harder time working. The system I saw probably was Kiwi's and it did not seem to have too much power. As for parking on a hill. my previous home was on top of a hill and I used that all the time.   3. Sadly, I rarely ride it. At my age and with a knee replacement, it is getting harder for me to kick start it.

  8. In the mountains above Palm Springs there is a spring next to the highway. In the thirties (CCC) a pipe was installed into the spring on the side of the mountain along with stonework that directed the water flow through the pipe. Locals would take jugs to the spring and fill them up. We would fill up some containers when we were in the area. The water tasted very good and I never heard of anyone getting ill from it. I never saw this spring not running even during the driest times.
