  1. KelTec has its place in the firearms manufacturing market. I have owned a few over the years and will say that they have all been reliable when fed quality ammo. That said, I would not risk my life on any KelTec as a primary weapon. I do not feel they are manufactured to be high-round-count weapons.
  2. The reason I've been using Ground News. They show you the headline and then show how it's being covered by mainstream media. If you follow a headline, it will take you to a page that has all of the coverage on that particular headline, and you can choose to read articles from many of the sources (left, right and center views) for free to see how they compare.
  3. I started using Ground News, but not on my phone.
  4. I have four pieces of the Hornady brass. PM me your shipping info and I'll send them to you.
  5. I don't know how expensive a Stetson is. Check out D Bar J - not sure if they'll be at EoT or not but if so, well worth any money spent. They also carry what David calls "Crappy Cowboy Hats". Good luck with finding most of the blemishes that he identifies. Still first-rate hats.
  6. Except at Walmart - where the entrance is the left door as you enter and the exit is the left door as you leave.
  7. How does one tell if a rifle is a real Model D?
  8. Next best thing - stay in a camper on the range. I still use a TruckVault.
  9. I really know practically nothing of the AK-47 (variants), SKS or any other COMBLOC weapons. Of the SKS and AK-47(variants), I thought it was an advantage that the AK-47(variants) used detachable magazines while most SKS used a hinged magazine and were designed to be refilled with stripper-clips. Why do people think the SKS is better?
  10. So we shouldn't drive trucks? Or not go to Winter Range? Or????? If a thief wants something, they'll take it. One has to take considerable caution, especially as a competitor at major events that are advertised nationally. My goal is to make it as inconvenient as possible. To some, that means carrying everything inside a hotel room. I'd much rather keep my stuff locked in a TruckVault in the bed of a truck than carrying it inside a hotel room and leaving the room unattended.
  11. Truck vault is a great product. Have had one since 2018. Pros: Secure (I have the Kaba Simplex combination locks - these are the same as I've seen used in certain military applications. The locks were easy to change the combination. Cons: Vehicle specific. The "body" of most are ~48"x64", meaning it will fit between the wheel-wells of most short-bed trucks. You can order them for long-beds as well. There are "wings" that come off the sides of the body to create a completely flat deck. The wings have magnetic latches that hold them in place, yet still allow for some unsecure, yet out of sight, storage to the sides of the box. If you change to another make/model vehicle, or possibly even another year model of the same vehicle, the wings will no longer work as the interior of beds change. Mine does not currently have the wings attached, but my current truck has a camper shell with no windows. Not waterproof. The standard Truck Vaut is not waterproof and is designed to be mounted inside an enclosed location. For a pick-up, that means either a tonneau cover or camper shell. They do make an Extreme Series All-Weather TruckVault, which they say under most circumstances is waterproof. My last truck had a camper shell with dark tinted windows and it was very difficult to tell there was anything other than a flat bed inside the camper shell. Takes up space between the top of the Truck Vault and the bottom of the tonneau cover/camper shell. Figure about 12", or the height of the fender wells. Heavy. If you had to pull it out of the bed, it's a minimum two-person job. Also, it will beat into your payload. Maybe not much, but you need to figure out how much payload you have. The Truck Vaults weigh between 130-265 pounds. I believe this is one of the best investments I have made for travelling. I have travelled from the MS Gulf coast to AZ, TX, PA, VA, SD and WY on vacations as well as semi-locally to LA, AL and FL. A suitcase for the wife and I, which we kept in the back seat of the truck, is all we took into the hotel room. Never even opened the camper shell except at matches. There are two drawer heights - 5.625" and 10.125". I have the 5" drawers and have not had an issue carrying everything I need (firearms, ammunition and leather for two people for a 12-stage match, plus side matches and warmups. Our leather stays in the vault unless we are going on a trip somewhere that we won't be using the leather and would rather have extra secure storage. I have also heard good things about the Decked system but I've never seen one in person to provide a comparison. You can sometimes find like-new/demo models of various Truck Vaults on their outlet sight.
  12. I have been wearing Otto NoizeBarrier Micro earplugs for several years. They are expensive, as noted earlier. They carry/storage case has a battery and keeps a very good charge. I wear the earplugs twice a month and probably plug the storage case in every 2-3 months. I also prefer to use the Comply Ear Tips.
  13. Yes, there is. I'm not going to say you need to buy the OEM, but I'd steer clear of Amazon. The quality of the wires, connectors and connections are areas where the Chinese products can cost in the long run.
  14. A "MIL" is a unit of measurement. When a first focal plane scope is equipped with a MIL-type reticle, the size of the reticle in the eyepiece will appear to be small when on lower magnification powers and larger when zoomed in (higher magnification). In this way, a MIL is always a MIL. The original fixed zoom MIL-DOT scope had a crosshair with dots spaced one MIL apart. Optics with second focal plane reticles, where the reticle stays the same size regardless of magnification, only allow for the spacing to be accurate at one magnification level/power. A shooter will have to do math if the magnification power is not set to the appropriate position. Today's optics with FFP "Christmas tree"- style reticles will allow a shooter to make changes without having to make any scope adjustments. With the latter reticle, a shooter can be told an impact was three mils low and three mils right and can then simply use the appropriate "DOT" for a quick follow up shot. Hope that makes sense.
  15. I do believe that a uniformed service member serving with a branch other than their own can be awarded the ribbons/medals that are awarded to the branch in which they are serving. I may be wrong, though.
  16. The Armed Forces Superstore ribbon builder does not show a ribbon as described. It could be a foreign award, that may or may not have been officially authorized. Or, it may be a studio prop... The Navy Presidential Unit Citation is red, yellow and blue.
  17. I took this picture of the USS HUE CITY making a turn. This is a picture of the USS NEWPORT (LST-1179) from the flying bridge.
  18. 100% isopropyl alcohol Put it in a spray bottle that allows you to mist it. Mist the alcohol on both sides of the brim and then turn in your hand, with the grain, working the alcohol into the felt. Don't completely soak the hat, work the alcohol in slowly.
  19. I haven't seen Master and Commander, either. I do have a real tough time watching "modern" shows that depict ships with six-feet wide passageways and cell phone reception inside the ship at sea. The first 10 minutes of this video depict what life can be like during heavy seas on a modern DDG. life inside the most dangerous us navy arleigh burke class destroyers - YouTube
  20. The Smithey Farmhouse Skillet is my Grail for a carbon steel skillet - I'm just having a hard time rationalizing the cost ($295), though I'm sure it's worth it. Beautiful and functional, IMO.
  21. I first remember knowing who he was as an actor in the television series Fringe.
  22. I have a Lodge carbon steel skillet that I keep in my camper. Started with cast iron. The Lodge carbon steel needs to be seasoned but it will still get nice and slick with proper use and care.
  23. Lodge is a quality maker but buying a new one will a good cleaning and seasoning. Many ways to "speed up" the smoothing/seasoning process. I personally like some wet/dry sandpaper on an orbital sander. Knock all the rough "factory seasoning" off and then bake in the oven a couple times with the cooking oil of your choice.
