  1. I used to love looking at the Sears catalog. For me it was more of a “Wish Book” as my grandmother called it. I did get a Daisy lever action BB gun for Christmas when I was 9 and when I saw the scene in “A Christmas Story” where Ralphie shoots the metal sign and it ricochets and hits him in the face and his glasses fly off I laughed my fool head off. That same thing happened to me when I shot at a Stop sign. The BB came back and hit the bottom rim of the left lens of my eyeglass then hit my in the face. I thought I broke my glasses, but they were unharmed. I had a nice welt on my left cheek. I learned a lesson that day. BBs ricochet. My brother also got a BB gun. My Dad had laid down some rules for us. One rule was “If you shoot a bird or an animal you’ll get your butt whooped. If you kill it, you will eat it.” My brother shot a starling. My Dad showed him how to clean it and my Mom cooked it and my Dad made my brother eat it. He cried the whole time. He never shot at animals again. My Dad decided one day to take our BB guns away from us. I don’t recall the reason, but we never saw them again.
  2. It’s nothing bad. Just lots of humiliation and getting your butt beat with chunks of fire hose. Well, it’s not bad…unless your the Pollywog hoping to become a Shellback. Edited to change “house” to “hose”.
  3. Best: Rolling Stones, Dec. 17, 1981 Hampton Colliseum in Hampton Roads, VA. This was their “Farewell Tour”… Yeah, Right! Journey, Summer of ‘82, Hampton Colliseum Saga, 1982, Hampton Colliseum. They were the warmup band for Pat Benatar (see below). Those guys rocked the house big time! Out of all the bands I have seen at many concerts and venues I would have to say their show was the absolute best, IMNSHO. Elvis Costello, Spring of ‘89 at a bar near Uniontown, PA. It was weird because I was driving by and saw his name on a sign atop this nice sized bar. So, I pulled in, bought a ticket and had a great time. I was actually on my way to Eastern PA so I could get back to go to work on Monday. I called in sick. Dire Straits, Summer of ‘85, Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, CA. Fantastic outdoor venue. Sting’s portion of Money for Nothing was played by tape. Kinda glad because I didn’t want that a**-clown to try and dominate the show. Never cared for that douche. Great show! My seat was in a crappy spot. I convinced a security guy to let me stand up nearer to the stage about 50’ away near an exit door so I didn’t block anyone’s view. Billy Vera and The Beaters, we saw him numerous times from ‘84 to ‘88 in California and every show was excellent. Worst or pretty crappy: Pat Benatar 1982 Hampton Colliseum. We left at the start of her 3rd song. As we reached our truck my wife and I looked back and hundreds of people were also leaving. Men At Work 1982 The Scope Arena, Norfolk VA. I am sure the band did great. The arena wasn’t built for concerts. The echo of the drums and bass killed the music for anyone in the seats higher than the floor seats. It was awful. Tommy Tutone, summer ‘85 or ‘86 at the 321 Club, Santa Monica, CA. The word sucks just doesn’t begin to describe the suckiness of that sucky musician and his sucky attitude. He couldn’t even play his one and only hit. EDIT: I forgot one. The Animals, Summer ‘86, Pantagious Theatre, Los Angeles. The only song worth a darn was the first song “House of the Rising Sun” and I think towards the end of the song is when the drugs interacted with the alcohol and it was downhill from there.
  4. News reporters with honesty and integrity have always been a minority, IMNSHO.
  5. I’d send you some but we don’t want an international incident.
  6. Good point. If I recall correctly I had no fees for my BofA debit card but 2 of my credit cards charged a small fee. Like 1-2%
  7. I am wondering if this whole thing isn’t a flipping publicity stunt for some movie or show.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. Imagine the lunch truck showing up and Dolly gets a whiff of the burgers.
  9. Thanks for that video, Marshal. I think it’s great that there is a program for Avalanche Dogs. Regarding avalanches and rescue, if I lived or recreated in an area where avalanches or any other personal disaster might befall me I would add a GPS / Satellite Personal Locator Beacon, Messenger and / or Phone to my gear. I have been considering getting one because I ride my motorcycle in some remote areas occasionally. A mishap where one slides off the road and over an embankment or cliff may not be obvious to people driving or passing by. When I lived in Oregon and in California I was amazed at how many people would not spend the money for a PLB (personal locator beacon) but they had no problem spending much more on the latest fashion in outdoor apparel. The Av-dog program is a wonderful thing but I would add some tech to ensure I am found alive.
  10. Now that you mention it I recall Cat Brules, though I am not sure where he went.
  11. I personally wouldn’t fool with Travelers Checks, if they still exist. Many U.S. businesses won’t accept them. I wouldn’t think they would be easier to use in another country. When I have traveled abroad I used credit cards. I also got between $200 and $400 I the local currency. Your bank may be able to help you get whatever foreign currencies you need for a small fee.
  12. That’s only part of it. There is much much more.
  13. If you do a search using these words “What does a body look like after being in a coffin for 15 years?” You will find numerous sites with some really disgusting information.
  14. A hazard of living. Or is it a blessing?
  15. I just read on Epoch Times that the “drone swarms are no occurring in Maryland”. Good! They’re headed west. I may get my wish. Whadya think…number 4 shot?
  16. I never saw KISS in concert. I listened to their taped and later on, CDs. The worst concert that a professional nationally known bad played that I walked out on was Pat Benatar when her 2nd album was released. The warm up band was Saga. They rocked the Hampton Colliseum in Virginia. Then Pat Benatar’s band came on. They sounded like they were all on Quaaludes. We walked out. I learned later that Pat Benatar fired Saga because Saga made them look bad. I actually wrote a letter to Columbia Records, I believe, and told them Pat Benatar made Pat Benatar look bad. Saga was worth the price of admission. I never got a response.
  17. Like @Stump Watersaid. Hat box in the overhead storage if it’s a nice hat. For my all weather crushable Aussie type hats I just wear it then toss it on top of my carry-on in the overhead.
  18. I have been wondering lately if the Shellback initiation is now a watered down PC pantie-waste hugging session. Anyone know? I know I heard a Navy Admiral on some news show state that hazing ceremonies have been banned in the Navy and Marine Corps.
  19. Naval traditions. It wasn’t a “fascination”.
  20. KISS is one of my favorite 70’s rock bands. That’s a great story, Joe. Thanks.
