Tyrel Cody, my wife used to do that too. That is annoying. But I turned it around. I just did what I wanted. If I asked her if she wanted to go out and eat but I didn't feel like it and she said "I don't care" I would choose to stay home, like I actually wanted to. If I asked would you like Chinese, Italian or Steak for dinner. She would say Whatever" I would choose what I wanted. It didn't take long for that to end, but occasionally she will do that today...and I do what I want when she does. Widder, I had that same thing happen so the next time I asked for extra sauce and extras cheese. When they handed me the bag I looked in and I kid you not, there was the mini sauce container and an even smaller "extra" sauce container...that was the last time I ever set foot in that place. I went to Macaroni Grill, an evil "big box" store of the restaurant world, after that. They may be a chain but they sure as heck know what extra sauce means.

I think I would pass on the out of date pork based MREs. The others might be okay.

I have used the Remington solvent as well as a few others. They are all pretty much the same, in my book. The current bottle on my shelf is Hoppe's Copper Remover. It works well. I only use copper solvents when I can actually see evidence of copper build up in the barrel. Normally I just use Hoppe's No. 9 or Break Free for cleaning. Copper solvents are harsh and I have read where constant use can damage a barrel so I use them sparingly.

This has been quite educational. Thank you all for your comments. Captain, those are good recommendations. Just remember the "stabilizer" in your gas, especially if it contains Ethanol. I had some gas that was about 8 months old in a 2 -5 gallon plastic cans. I put it in my boat and darned if I didn't end up having to take the carb off and clean it and syphon the tank. Apparently gas with ethanol gets funky after 6 months. Linn Keller, I like that can idea. I will say this, I am rethinking my way of doing things. I love the Wire, lots of educated folks here. I guess I'm "date shy". I have had some bad experiences with foods that were beyond the date posted on the packages. I would rather err on side of caution and if if have the means I would rather toss something rather than risk it being out of date if I can help it. I did ask my doctor once about meds being out of date and he told me that within a couple of months is okay except for ointments and pain killers. He said that things like Vicodin and other opioids that are out of date may make you ill. Darn fumble fingers.

Well then Henry, I guess you've had that experience first hand. Did you send it back to S&W for repair? By the way, you are the first person that I have encountered that actually had this happen. Thanks

Howdy everybody. Capt., canned food is like bottled water. The can liners deteriorate. The can may look fine but it can be tainted food. Meats especially. Veggies, not so much, unless acidic like tomatoes. I ate some out of date tuna once but didn't know it was expired. The tuna tasted "tinny" but I ate it anyway. I was on a camping trip at a campground with outhouses for toilets. Tossing your cookies in an outhouse is, well, quite humbling...and disgusting. I am very conscientious about dates on cans. Now, regarding MREs. The cases have a test date on them, if they are mil spec. On that date one MRE should be opened to see if it's good. If it is you test another a year later. If it's still good you have one more year and then you toss the case. The simple method that doesn't waste food is just to consider 2 years after the test date to be the expiration date.

The impending storm here in the Great Northwest and Widder's post about "Gold" prompted me to check on my emergency supplies. All my "stuff" is in order in case of a power outage or worse. I just wanted to post this to prompt others to check their gear, just in case, no matter where you live. I did find something interesting. I had a stash of canned goods that expired 2 years ago. Being a prepared packrat, in some regards, was a little disappointed in myself for not catching this sooner. Anyway, I just wanted to post as a reminder to you all to check your emergency supplies on occasion so you are prepared "just in case".

Never had money for gold...but I do have money for other "precious metals"...lead, brass, chrome moly steel, etc... I am not trying to be flippant but I honestly see no use for gold unless you have other bases covered, like water, food, shelter, first aid, medications, and self protection. If ever the "SHTF" and "barter" became necessary gold won't do for me what a hand full of ammo or a bag of canned goods could do, I am sure. If it comes to survival, the ones with the guns will be the ones with the gold if ethics and morals become the "S" that hits the fan. Now as for ads? Hype!

I have a 19-4. I also have several other S&W revolvers. Some old and 2 newer revolvers with the "dreaded" lock and dare I say, (cue scary hopeless music) MIM parts...I love them all and they are all quality firearms. I have heard, since I was a kid, that model 19's shouldn't have a steady diet of .357 Magnum because of one thing or another, but I have yet to meet ANYONE that has actually experienced these problems. I am not saying that they don't happen, but I have often wondered if some of those issues aren't exaggerated. OR if these issues weren't "amplified" by a savvy team of sales people wanting to promote "something newer and better".

ANother vote for the "vise-grip method". It works...but keep those safety glasses on anyway.

First off, I would never buy a 1911 for $8000. I have had my fill of them, thank you - not tryin' to start a fight. Just statin' a fact. BUT, if someone gave me that gun, assuming it was really "worth" $8000 I would sell it and buy a couple of Smith and Wessons that I have always desired, a good 45-70 rifle and a used dual sport motorcycle. By the way, by "good" I mean usable and not a safe queen and not a "collectible". Probably a Marlin 1895 GSBL.

If I wore a tee shirt that listed all my "new" traits I would look like a billboard.

It didn't kill me and I feel great. Mostly what I did is cut way back on milk, eggs and red meat. I have a steak or a couple burgers once a week. I eat lots of chicken and pork in place of red meat. I have ice cream on the weekends, occasionally. I eat lots of steamed veggies and fruit. I do not eat processed foods. I do not eat junk food. I eat brown wild rice, no white rice. When I eat bread I eat whole grain bread or I eat these wraps called "Flat-Outs". My doctor said eat lots of Oatmeal...that ain't happening. Good luck.
