About Me

Relatively new member of SASS, hooked by visiting EOT 2009 and encouraged to shoot by Albuquerque's Rio Grande Renegades. Retired federal criminal investigator, been shooting modern handguns since Navy OCS in 1970. Carried on the job for 25 years; retired as a special agent in 2000 and worked for nine years as a trainer for contractor for another federal agency. Now I visit the local ranges each quarter just to punch holes in targets. Have never competed or really wanted to. Each spring on my last job, we hosted a training competition for current officers and the faculty and staff like me set and paint targets, etc during the week-long competition. EOT looked like a chance to join in the shooting and have fun, so I joined. I chose the personna of my father's step-father, a "horse-shoer, not a blacksmith" who was trained in Ireland and served as a journeyman traveling the west, including Colorado mining country in the 1890s before settling in the City of Brooklyn. Pop used to lament a mis-spent youth. In the period 1908-1916, as a schoolboy on the east end of Long Island, NY, his after-school job was to return customers newly-shod horses. Pop talked about Jeremiah sitting in the shop, spinning yarns with his cronies about the times and doins' he had "out-west" while my Pop hankered to go play ball with his school chums. Fifty years later he told me how much he then wished he had listened to "Jere" and his pards, and the older men of the village (Sag Harbor, NY) who were GAR members. I wish he had, too, now. So I joined SASS in the Summer of 2009 and recently became a SASS RO I, yet I still do not get out much, or enough, but I am working on it. The shooting is just fine and the folks finer still.
