Howdy Pards, I've searched quite a bit thru the boolit vendors I'm familiar with and cannot find a flat-based bullet for my .45colt needs. ie:.452 300 grain flat based
If you know for sure a certain vendor has this could you let me know ? the hardness is last on the list of criteria,. thanks !

Here's a hoist of a cool one to our very good Pard, Buckshot Pete. Pete passed away last year on Oct 6th, 2023. SASS NO. 12668
Pete was well known up and down the I-5 corridor in WA. and OR by hundreds of shooters of our game, and he was the friendliest, most willing to jump in and do anything Pard there ever was.
Buckshot and i shot a plethora of matches together and he will be sorely missed by the Pacific Northwest shooters.

once u have the shell plate where u want it don't forget to re tighten the allen scres on the main shaft.Yu'd be surprised how many posts i've read where this got overlooked. The more snug the plate...within reason,..the better chance your primers will be seated right. And don't be timid about leaning into the handle a tad for a second to maker sure they seat,other wise no 'bang' until u go around and hit it again.

there is one on cast boolits with must b e a hundred pictures, asking 1800.00, and i've seen that price other times too.
I asked that same question on here a few years back and some said as low as 600 because of the 'odd' caliber and chamber length.
I tend to think they are worth more like 900.00 but I'm no price expert, just what I feel they are worth in 'fair''/used condition
imho, ymmv.

I have a very early 1901,shoot it now and then ,curious why they made the finger lever 2 piece ?
wiki intimates that it and the lever safety have something to do with each other, Not that I can tell unless it's after the safety 'button' goes into it's hole in the lever,and magic occurs in there ?
f..AHA,further examination reveals that the tip of the safety is broken off. mystery solved.
the shells i have are roll crimped, Western Expert, and on the side is 4 1/4-, 1 1/4-6.the last two I get..the 1st number is actual drams or dram equivelent ? IE: smokeless shells. ?
I fired a few last year and got the strong impression they are black powder shells, look to be factory rounds.
again...AHA. watcching videos of it being shot I have to go with smokeless shells.

oal 1.180, rim dia. 605..case mouth .452... case dia. at base, .544, case dia near mouth, .511
basically it looks like a short ,slightly fatter....thicker brass ?? 45 colt with a bit wider rim taking spp primers

per google all dimensions wrong for schoefield. It's a good 1/8" shorter than a Colt,no extractor groove, rim is several thou. wider than Colt

visually it's a fat looking 45 colt case EXCEPT no extractor groove, it looks to take small primer...I didn't want to actually seat it, but diameter is right.
the main body is tapered, skinnier on top by .030 or so . A .452 bullet fits just right,in the case mouth.
The headstamp looks like gibberish...maybe a pattern of some sort. ?
Just curious what I found lurking, I have no recollection of where it came from

Lost art ? oh heck no, I often tell my buds that I shoot to reload. Now days don't shoot nor reload like before the dryup of components, but still doing it, still lovin' it.

Early Uberti '66 some smoothing and a medium short stroke, I regret not short stroking it from the get\go. 45colt

one obvious thing they keep 'improving'..not in my book...is the powder bar return mechanism.I"m still using just 2 springs and 1 rod that is redundnant to the springs. The new C series has all kinds of gobbledy gook things on it for that. I sent mine for refurb and kept my OLD powdermeasure and told them I would, they were fine with that,and it's still running great.

starting loads of almost any powder suck in .45 colt, because it's a huge case.sooooo don't load a thousand and wish you hadn't .Just a thought.(no,not something I did. )

ok so I tried some out today, very gentle recoil compared to many other powders, I think hp38 is.....great! lol thanks all !!

I have a bit of some others but acquired 2 full jugs of hp38, how do it work in cowboy level 45 colt loads. shooting 200 grain rnfp, pistol level loads.
