  3. Folks I have been working up loads of my 45-120 sharps with a 1-20 twist 34" Douglas barrel with mixed results. I have been using ole Eenlsford 1 1/2 F powder between 100 -110 grains with 535 postell bullets. At 200 yards best I can do is a 12" pie plate grouping. Suggestions would certainly be welcomed.
  4. Thanks a lot to everyone for your comments and past experiences. Tennessee Snuffy
  5. Folks I need some advice as to which way to go since I am going to be buying some equipment. I am casting 535 g with a single cavity mold. Over the course of a year, I probably will shoot 200 to 300 rounds. What are the advantages and disadvantage of each casing method? Thanks Tennessee Snuffy
  6. Folks I have a 45 caliper 535 g postell bullet mold and would like to cast some 500 g postell using the same mold. Is that possible? Can I add some Tin to lighten the weight but then that will also make the bullet harder. Am I correct? Suggestions are certainly appreciated. Thanks a lot Tennessee Snuffy
  7. OLG Since I am new to the black powder world, if I add more compression and I want the bullet to be long and touch the rifling, do I add veg wads to take up the extra space?
  8. Lead Monger Thanks for the information. For my education, why to you suggest to not utilize the ox yoke wad? How much is too much powder compression? Thanks
  9. Buckshot no correlation between cleaning and velocity how do you obtain your compression— searing bullet deeper or adding more veg wads it seems bay rifle does not like bullet jump but like the bullet to be on the rifling
  10. TRVLRMN I sent you a PM Tennessee Snuffy
  11. Thanks for all the advice. Let me add a bit more information. Velocity running from 1425 to 1475 New batteries installed with same results blow tube between ever shot then clean after 5th shot Using SPG lube with 530 gr postel bullets Powder measured by weight -- 100 grains and dropped via drop tube Federal match grade rifle primers I use 0.030 veg wad and ox yoke wad on top of powder; Compression is light about 0.030" -- what is considered excessive? Bullet is seat into rifling and no crimp Cases have not been annealed Using Old Einsford 1 1/2 F Do not full length size case Ok now that I have provided a lot more information on what I am doing, what do I need to change or modify or start doing in order to obtain a more consistent fps? thanks for all your help Tennessee Snuffy
  12. Folks I have been loading 100 g of 1 1/2 F for a 45-120. Over a 10 shot average, I am getting a 50 fps spread (from the highest to the lowest). Average FPS = 1450. Since I am new to the black powder world, is that pretty good, ok or stinks like a dead skunk? Thanks Tennessee Snuffy
  13. TRVLRMN I sent you a PM Tennessee Snuffy
  14. Folks I wanted to make you aware that a fellow by name of Hollett (who has been banned) and his side kick Ferrell Cohen tried to scam me today. They had 100 pieces of 45-120 Starline brass for 175 plus shipping (already sounds funny since this brass is going for about 3 to 5 buck each.) Only wanted PayPal or Venno, would not supply me a pix of their driver licenses & provided an apartment address in Benbrook Texas. He took a pix of the brass all saran wrapped but there was no star Line stamping on the head stamp. Beware when a person he has a buddy who has exactly what you need for one heck of a good deal!!!!! And by the way, he got no money from me. Tennessee Snuffy
  15. He contacted me today and said his friend had the 45-120 brass that I looking for. I contacted Ferrell cohen via email. Price for brass was way too cheap and he only wanted pay pay or venno. Seemed like a scam as it sure was. I had phone number Ferrell call from if needed tennessee snuffy
  16. New or used works for me. Thanks Tennessee Snuffy
  17. How long is the barrel? Tennessee Snuffy
  18. I have been thinking about getting a truck vault system. I was wondering how many folks have a gun storage system like Truck Vault in their vehicle? What do you like and dislike about it? Do you keep your guns stored in the truck vault when you go to a hotel during a big shoot? Does anyone know of one for sale? Thanks for the feedback Tennessee Snuffy
  19. I will can tell you that Ole Step N Mud is as honest as they come. If he tells you it is raining outside, you better get your umbrella. A great guy to do business with and shoot with. Tennesse Snuffy
