  1. She's definitely the better half. Keeps me between the fence posts!
  2. If I had the coin, that's exactly what I'd do -- have one of each! But alas, I'm unable to do that at the moment. Other gunly things are higher on the list.
  3. No thanks on the tower stuff. Though not at dizzying heights, this is pretty amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcUHlmT7cIY
  4. I thought the penny was for good luck. I don't recall pay phones taking anything but nickels dimes and quarters.
  5. An admiral and a chief were in the barbershop getting haircuts. When finished, the admiral's barber asked if he'd like some tonic in his hair. The admiral said, "No thanks. I don't want my wife thinking I smell like a bordello." The chief's barber asked the same thing and the chief replied, "Go ahead and splash it on. My wife doesn't know what a bordello smells like."
  6. "We're the phone company, we don't have to care." -- Ernestine Tomlin "Everybody hates the phone company." -- Godfrey Cambridge in 'The President's Analyst"
  7. For people who only had on-the-street parking, where were they supposed to put them? In NYC that only applied to designated snow routes, which didn't affect us much in the residential areas.
  8. I had a 1973 Plymouth Duster (same as the Dart) just like this but with a 225 cid slant six and no rally stripes. Bought it brand new for $2,500. I still think it's a nice looking car. The only other good thing about it was the engine and tranny, which was a floor mounted 3-speed stick. I had to pay $35 to have the shifter on the floor instead steering column. The rest of the car was crap. Typical of the era, it was very poorly made. You could practically hear it rust. At the time I doubt the term quality assurance was familiar in Detroit board rooms or on the factory floor.
  9. I'm old enough to remember party lines. When we moved to the new 'burbs back in '65, many had to share the same number for awhile because SW Bell didn't have enough to go around.
  10. At least once a month at the indoor range to keep proficient with my CC bottom feeder. It's also a great place to work on hand loads when I feel like experimenting.
  11. My dad's Navy sword has the star and looks just like this one. Stainless blade ca. 1950 http://picclick.ca/US-Navy-Ceremonial-Sword-Harry-L-Workman-Conqueror-371792137723.html#&gid=1&pid=8
  12. What innards are you referring to? And on what brand gun -- Colt, Para, Springfield etc?
  13. Mine shoots low too, but I've learned to compensate for it. Kinda bugs me that I have to do that. Since my Colt is basically an A1 with a flat housing, I've been toying with the idea of installing an arched one. Doesn't look that hard to do. I can always put the other one back if I don't like it, right?
  14. My Series 80 1911 has the flat mainspring housing. I've never handled an arched housing version. I know this issue is purely subjective, but what do you 1911 shooters from the Saloon prefer and why? Opinions from those who have virtual 1911s are welcome too.
  15. I like your style Doc, one of my favorite movies. Gotta say tho, Peter Falk's 'Max' is every bit as memorable to me. One could not have existed without the other. What a great duo. "Push the button, Max!"
  16. Watched the last qtr that way. Great game that went down to the wire. Go GB. BTW, no dog in the hunt, but Atlanta/Seattle was a great game too.
  17. This has been my experience with hearing & aids (and wife), word for word. the only difference is mine are the ReSound brand with Bluetooth so I can adjust with my iPhone.
  18. Yup. I went for the first time last year. Picked up a really nice Garand for good price after seeing acres of overpriced ones. Lots of overpriced stuff and some junk, but if you're diligent, there are a handful of deals to be had. And if you need parts and accessories, this is the place to go.
  19. "Deeper than normal" is subjective. Without pics, it's hard to say. Adding on, how does the pistol function with the "deeper than normal" ring? Is there any other abnormal wear?
  20. I met a B-52 pilot while waiting for a turn to fly the B-2 simulator at Whiteman AFB. When showing our ID, I noticed he had a Caterpillar Club card in his wallet. Of course I had to ask how earned it. He said he was deadheading in a B-52 that suffered a catastrophic structural failure during refueling and broke up in flight. He was in the crew bay in the belly without an ejection seat, so he just found himself suddenly falling thru space. One of his strongest memories was that of having one of the engines remaining next to him while he fell until deploying his chute.
  21. I no longer have a prostate. If I take the palmetto tablets, I'm afraid it might reduce the size of something I can ill afford to have reduced.
  22. Stick with the Jamesons. Although it's not Irish, you already know about Basil Hayden... Gonna pick me up some Jameson and BH tomorrow. Merry Christmas my friend!
