  1. I won a box and the velocity is a lot lower than my reloads, scared the heck out of me the 1st time as I thought I had a squib. But they were real pleasant to shoot once I got over the difference. Rafe
  2. Shoot frontiersman and Frontier cartridge duelist with 45 colt! No issues . Rafe
  3. I have shot 45 colt for the last 20 years, switched to black powder about 15 years ago. Yes I get blowback but I can run a match with little more than a spritz of balistol on the carrier. Have shot bordertown, winterange and eot with no issues. Is it worse than a bottleneck cartridge probably. But very doable. I shoot a 73 and 66 and both work just fine only tear down and clean inside before a big match. Your mileage may vary but I'm sticking with 45 colt Rafe
  4. A lot will depend on the primers that you are using. Federal primers are softer and require less force so the 30-19 should be fine, if you are using winchester or cci primers I would go 40/19. Especially if you are an occasional shooter. You can always change springs later. Most shooters have fiddled with spring pressures. Rafe
  5. Chief Rick, I hope you don't think I am questioning how you wrote the post. There was no order of how a shooter engages the targets just which weapon and how many targets that needed to be engaged. Not being there I can only comment on how I would call it.
  6. Creekers stage would Absolutely eliminate any what ifs, Most folks I have shot with would abide by any call made on the ops stage, however there are shooters that would argue with a fence post over a call. I have been know to make calls on myself. Rafe
  7. I am not trying to GIVE the shooter a miss or a P, However OP states that "With rifle, engage the 10 rifle knock-down targets". "The first three rounds knock down the first three targets. Shooter misses the fourth target with the fourth shot. Shooter re-engages the fourth target, knocks it down!" Meaning that Shooter did not engage all 10 rifle targets with the rifle as instructed shooter only engaged 9 of the rifle targets, #4 was engaged twice. How could this not at least be a P for not engaging all rifle targets with the rifle. I shoot at several clubs and the unwritten rule for a target that falls or was not set before the stage is shot is that the shooter shoots where it would be. No misses. So u8nless the OP was posting the instructions different than written I stand by my call. And will gladly hand the spotting stick/timer to someone else if I am wrong! Rafe
  8. Is that black paint on the henry, if so will it polish/strip off
  9. Ok I'm confused OP states that instructions are "With rifle, engage the 10 rifle knock-down targets." Then states that shooter re-engage missed rifle target so how is it not at least a p for not engaging all rifle targets with their rifle?
  10. Clean and a "p" instructions clearly state with rifle engage "all" rifle knockdown targets, shooter did not engage all knockdown. Rafe
  11. No issues, I use 125s on my pistols with no problem with knockdown. Rafe
  12. Thank goodness Dallas bought it, my wallet and wife would have been mad! Rafe
  13. Like Dawg said buy some tresso or slix nipples, also you can fill in the hammer face grove with jb liquid weld then smooth it flat with a file that will help the hammers not pull the cap off. Rafe
  14. Take it back to the dealer you bought it from. No sense paying for it to send to ruger on your dime. Get your money back obviously that gun has been shot with jacketed ammo. Rafe
  15. I just picked up a 48 and did the shield 15 round mag modification. Like the slim fit of the grip tried the 19 and 17 but hated the way it felt. Used to the 1911. Rafe
  16. Great match, shot Friday but knees wouldn't have any of shooting Saturday. Rafe
  17. I don't lug a jug of water around the match, I bag my brass until I get to the truck then dump the brass in the jug and let it roll around the back of the truck. Just like a washing machine the brass is clean and ready to dry and takes less tumbling to get shiny. Rafe
  18. You can load regular plastic hulls with app or black powder, I'd save the brass hulls for style points. Cheaper and easier to use plastic hulls, load the same way as smokeless just have to adjust your load data to accommodate more powder just be careful to not blow a hole in your pattern by using way to much powder. Rafe
  19. I've been shooting app for years, as beartrap said just dump your brass in a jug of water, I squirt a little dish soap in it after shooting. By the time I get home all I need to do is rinse the brass, dry then tumble. Rafe
