  1. I guess I am missing something. Why would you take a .38-55 in decent shape and transfer the parts to a junker gun? Then you wind up with two beaters.
  2. If you spend two or three years and several thousand dollars in parts and labor fitting the parts and wood you will wind up with a good solid $500.00 gun. The original configuration looks like a half-round/half-octagon barrel with a button magazine. That would be a good find if the gun were whole. If it got hot enough to warp the barrel you have a nice wall hanger. Make up a story to go with it.
  3. This is all I have had the past five years. I am not sure I will even be this extravagant this year. Bah, humbug.
  4. I'm not sure I got her photo so there is no proof she was there. Although someone that looked an awful lot like her was wandering around covered in green paint.
  5. I learned something tonight that kind of surprised me. Teeter on Yellowstone has a long connection with westerns. She is the daughter of Michael Landon of Bonanza and Little House on the Prairie. Jennifer Landon.
  6. New owners of SASS? That is a new one. Where did you hear that?
  7. TO "Shooter ready?" Shooter "What?" TO moves timer closer - TO "Shooter Ready?" Shooter "What!?" TO, "I'll touch your shoulder when the beep goes off." Shooter "Just move the timer closer to my left ear." TO "Shooter Ready?" Shooter "What?"
  8. Oops, you missed it. It was last weekend. Tomorrow should be in the mid to high 70s.
  9. The Safeway Soup Bar. Everything I need to know about soup.
  10. No there just are some old pharts that shoot trap that love papers, mostly for the smell. Like a lot of old pharts here there are fewer and fewer of them so the market is very small. Since Vista owns Federal and Remington speculation is they are just Federal papers dyed a different color.
  11. For example, here is a snippet of guideance from ATF - May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U.S. Postal Service? A nonlicensee may not transfer a firearm to a non-licensed resident of another state. A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of their own state or to a licensee in any state. The U.S. Postal Service recommends that long guns be sent by registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside of any parcel containing firearms. I added the bold italics in the last sentence. The P.O. does not want markings on the box indicating there is a firearm inside. The clerks don't need to know what is inside either. That is an invitation to theft. If there is another P.O. in your area I would just go to a different P.O.
  12. You are correct and can look up the USPS and ATF rules but why did you tell them what was in the box? Even when mailing modern long guns to an FFL you don't need to tell them what is in the box.
  13. If you cut down the stock then you will need a grind to fit pad if you want it to fit properly. KickEez has the largest variety of sizes and styles. Sounds like the Junior might be the closest to what you need. https://kickeezproducts.com
  14. Sort of like the letters on Model 97s. They indicate changes during the production run. Earlier 73s will usually have no letter and later ones an A or B.
  15. Just went out in the garage and measured some screws to save you some time and money. Uberti screws are .212", Pietta screws are .234". A 12-32 screw is .218. So a Uberti screw might screw into a 12-32 hole (The Uberti screw is either metric or a no longer used English thread) but a 12-32 screw will not screw into a Uberti hole.
  16. Like I said if it was easy plenty of people would have found them by now. 12-32 is not a common size and are hard to find. The Brownell's thread checker is also just a thin plate. Many metric screws will screw into the thread checker but when you get the English size it won't fit in a deeper hole or will be .002 or .003 larger and won't fit. Good luck. If you find a sources of plug screws let us know. I have actually run a 12-28 tap into the frame hole as a 12-28 screws was a tad to large OD to fit. Looked terrbile when done. I still like the screw mod in Abilene's post. I call it an oil hole.
