Or you could buy a Marlin already chambered in 410, they did make them, if you could find one.

Outlaw Gambler - outlawgambler@gmail.com I'm sure can help you with 97 parts. Good Man to do business with.

I ground the wide part making the spring thinner. I polished the sides smooth but did not narrow them. It is important to keep the spring thickness uniform as possible so the entire spring does the work. A thin spot will do most of the flexing and fatigue early. If memory serves, those springs have some taper. Maintain that taper.
I too did it this way,the Roger Rapid way. If you look at the ends ot the original springs they have a sharp tapper at the end, this allowing the hammer to drop close to the firing pin, no need for brass rings. Be sure to get the scratches out.

Hey Morgun,
I think you and Doxie should take your Chirtmas outfit, you would be the hit of EOT.
Good luck down there.

I have the hammered version which, theoretically, should fall open since there are no cocking rods etc. Practically had to break it open over my knee when I first got it. The main culprit? The extractor. The main extractor rod and the guid rod were about 10° out of parallel. The main shaft and channel were horribly rough and tight. Cleaned up those issues and gun falls open now
What Augustus said, put some Flitz on the moving part that touch, open and close, it helps a lot. Mine too falls open.

I like my JM Marlins, my match gun is a Cowboy Comp. 357 tuned up, love it, others for long range and hunting. I bought a Remlin in 45, 1 of 1500 pretty gun. it works OK, I don't use it that much, it has a REP on the other side of the barrel about in the same place as the JM is on the barrel.

I foresee 30 years from now the son will want to have the gun refinished back to how dear old dad bought it originally because that's how dad would have wanted it.
Been there done that, Mod 11 Rem. and 99 Savage, live and learn.

I still work on Marlin's, 73/66's and cartridge revolvers plus sell parts. Not sure where this is coming from but you're not the first. It's obvious from the our website we sell tuned guns and perform action work.
Sorry Jim,
I thought I'd remembered on the SASS site a year or so ago you were retiring to do the things you like to do and spend more time with family and friend.

Long Hunter Shooting Supply did the action work on my Marlin rifles. Excellent work and quick turn around time. See https://www.longhunt.com/web/index.php?page=Marlin-custom-action-work-repair
I could be wrong, but I thought Jim AKA Long Hunter retired from doing action work. He still sells parts.

Wow, I'm surprised to see this post again.
Like I said in an earlier post, I put the stock trigger back in and the gun worked fine. I have since sold the gun, too old for heavy recoil, to a pard, he loves it.
I still won't deal with Wild West Guns. I too was in business at one time; two things I thought were important for good business: one, return calls and two, make the customer happy.

Smokestack,
The Trigger Happy wouldn't work in mine, I felt it was unsafe. Contacted Wild West they would do nothing about it.

I can say nothing but good things about Dillon, they stand behind there product. NO BS Warranty that's the truth.

Jimmy,
I had a similar problem in my Marlin 1895 with the Wild West trigger happy trigger I posted here. The consensus was it was my fault and not that the trigger was made bad, it too would fire out of battery not touching the trigger block, maybe the hole was drill in the wrong place in the sear and trigger making it short. Yes if you still have the 3 peace firing pin in your gun it wouldn't matter but like a lot of cowboys they have put the one peace firing pins in and yes it could go off out of battery. I put the stock trigger back in, may be floppy, but gun is safe again. Wild West was no help and I had it to long to send it back to who I bought it from. Like the one cowboy said Marlin work good right out of the box.
Your lucky you get to send it back.

At the The River City Regulators annual match, they give out cowbells as prizes. They are different sizes and colors, gold, silver and bronze according to placement. They have, I'm sure, computer generated stickers on them, one side name of the club and the logo and on the other side class and placement. They are fun to hang on your gun cart as they ring along as you move from stage to stage. They know you are coming, if you need to get someone's attention as you can get a grip on it and ring the heck out of it.

OK, Thanks for the reply.

Hi Mike,
I know your looking for a 73. Thought I would put this out there and see if you maybe interested. I have a H&R target rifle looks like buffalo rifle in 38-55 with Marbles improved tang, I know it would take some gold too.
I can send pics. to your email if you're interested.
Thanks Rob

I'm 71 years old, this is not my first rodeo. I worked as a apprentice machinist for two year, not my cup of tea. Went in to heavy construction, worked in the shop repairing heavy equipment in the winter mouth. Built a couple fast race cars. When I retired I went three weeks to summer school gun smithing classes to learn to work on cowboy gun. I know I could fix this if I could find some one that can tig weld or maybe some J-B weld and a hacksaw blade and some filing to make up the 12 Thousandth between the back of the trigger and trigger stop, I find this as putting good money and time after bad. I put the stock trigger back in, maybe a little floppy but the gun is safe now. I pray no one has there gun fire out of battery A 45-70 pushing a 1/2" bolt back would do more then a little hurt.
This is the last I will say on this subject.

Thanks everyone for your input. I put this out here because I think a gun that could fire out of battery is a major safety issue. If you own a Marlin and have installed a Trigger Happy trigger you may want to check it. Simple check leave the lever down pull the trigger if the hammer drop you have a problem.
Yes I'm not happy with the manufacturer, You would think they would want to do all they can to correct a safety issue.

To big is great, but to small is not, I can weld some but not on small parts like a trigger.
