That is correct Matt Blacks Ruger Vaqueros have transfer bars. They are not short stroked and I just changed the main spring, trigger spring, sure hit sights and gunfighter grips and that’s it. He also pulls the trigger on every shot no slip hammering. His rifle is a 20” border deluxe Taylor’s with a 4th gen kit. We don’t take our guns to the edge. He loved the match at EOT this year. He said the stages were awesome and nothing was out of line at all. In fact his total time was only .44 of a second longer than last year when it was set up big and close. He did have a few more bobbles last year though.
Colt..Any chance of a slow-mo video of Matt shooting the pistols ?..thanks

New South Wales Eskapees
Queensland Eskapees
...all three are a play on the history of Australia as a penal colony.
Cowboy Eskipades

Mohawk, where are you getting 71/2 shot?
There is a big shortage down here and all the Trap shooters are trying to get it.
Contact Ballantine ammunition in Laverton [ Melbourne ] Victoria...they would have to transport it to Sydney but their price is very competitive , if a few of them get together & buy a tonne it works out pretty good.
Don't use it myself as I still have lead of my own., down the track I probably will.

I shoot trap & have so for many years..always reload cos' I like them.
Having always used a flake powder I came across a full & in good condition Winchester 452AA large tin of ball powder...I'm reading around 22 grains for around 1200fps for a 1oz load of # 7 1 / 2 ..I use all Win components.
Looking for comments on that load or other suggestions ..thanks.

Way back I posted that we were in the process of starting a Single Action part of a existing club that presently has no range but are in the process of securing new land. It's a long drawn out process in Aus with plenty of paperwork & $$$..
It is still ongoing ..a light can be seen at the end of the tunnel & hopefully everything will come together.
Anyway the point of this post is to settle on a name..I had a lot of suggestions before but nothing grabbed me !!
The town name is Esk so I lean towards starting with those letters Esk... ....... A bit like Escondido Bandidos, if you get my drift..
Fire away pards ...& thanks......Cheers 'Mohawk

I would never use a taper crimp on .44-40. It REALLY needs a firm, roll crimp with smokeless. This is a thin wall case, and taper crimping will not provide hardly ANY resistance to collapsing the bullet into the case. Black powder loads filling the case won't collapse, but could release the bullet if you have a good amount of compression of the powder, letting it creep out to a longer than desired length.
I too use a Redding profile crimp die, because I find it holds the bullet more firmly than the Lee Factory Crimp die does. For the .44-40 or .38-40, that Redding die is worth it's price tag in making a round that always chambers and is consistent in performance.
You pay good money to go to matches, and then complain about buying a really good die for use on a cartridge that really needs a good crimp? Hmmph.
Good luck, GJ
Thanks for that info GJ..BP I have no problems but smokeless is a different story, I will have to track down a redding die.Just priced one in Australia... $58AU
