  1. Yes, if you didn't pick up, he'd knock, go looking for you, maybe check the garage (no garage door openers then....mostly left unlocked), then ask the neighbors

We had a large mud porch off the back door with a compartment with two-way doors between the kitchen and the mud porch for milk and other dairy deliveries and to put our empty bottles in.

  2. I ran into a very nice lady handing out samples at Costco. Engaged her in conversation. Her husband was a corporate executive. They invested everything with Madhoff after he retired. She was doing this sampling work at Costco to make ends meet, trying to earn money to pay the taxes on their home.

    ----------

Hand Madhoff over to Blue Duck.

    Paraphrasing:

"Cut a hole in his stomach and pull out a gut. Drag'em out 20 or 30 feet and see what the coyotes are havin' for supper."

  3. Ya'll just need a better class of politicians. ;)

Ya'll just need a better class of politicians. ;)

That, too, maybe, but no, that ain't it.

What y'all need is a better class of Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL's).

Any FFL can ship a firearm to a California FFL. They log onto the California Department of Justice (DOJ) website, spend about 3 minutes (faster, if they've done it before) and then, ship the firearm,

The difficulty arises when some bonehead out-of-state FFL decides he's going to hurt The State of California, by "refusing to do business there." What he's really doing is making life difficult for legitimate gun owners in his own state and in The State of California.

Many FFL's in all states will not accept shipments from non-FFL individuals because of the inherent inability to (to a high degree) positively identify the a non-FFL shipper.

  4. "Gunsmoke" is my favorite western series

Hard for me to pick my favorite episode. I recall the one where they ambushed the "comancheros," the gang that murdered white settlers. It was very good; there were so many that were very good.

    Can't pick just one.

  5. Try Iron Will, show me where I have to use my alias to post.

I am still a member until Feb. 21, dues paid till then, and then I become an ex member, not before, unless I pay for another year. That's a fact.

Don't argue the point. You're either a paid member or you're not. I'm showing you zip.

If someone sends you payment and you evaporate, (s)he's no recourse.

  6. Boggus, thanks for the info. Still looking at buying one for wild bunch shooting. But not wanting to pay a price out of range of its worth. The store owner is asking $725.00. That seems a little high for a Para. Even if it is a limited edition. What do you think? Thanks in advance, Will.

PS, hope to see you again at Winter Range this year.

My suggestion is to just let it go....he's selling it for a reason and is asking $hundreds more than I personally think it's worth, based, probably, on what he has in it, and the horsepower he thinks resides in the Para-Ordinance roll mark and the SASS engraving. I've stayed away from P-O because of stories of unreliability. Also, I think you should remember that for WB competition, the weapon must reliably chamber and fire lead slugs. Many new 1911's of any manufacture will not do so (reliably), out of the box, new.
  7. Appears to be a "D" model, possibly a "C" ..... Around here, it would probably bring somewhere in the neighborhood of $350. if it functions as it should. Don't see much additional value even being more than a "field" grade in that condition ?? Check places like "Gunbroker" for realistic selling price........

Yeah $200 to $300, depending on how bad the wear and parts required to make it fully functional. If the square buttress threads in the takedown are rounded off, or if there's more than the tinyist wiggle-slop in the front end where it ties in to the barrel extension, I'd pass on it altogether. Non-matching SN's on the receiver and front end would drop the value to $200, in my view, if all else is well. It looks like a parts gun. in my view.

    EDIT:

From closer inspection of the photo of the worn shotgun, I see it's missing at least the hammer. It will take a detail strip, detail cleaning, close inspection, good spare parts to replace those missing, worn out or broken, etc., etc. I'd call this shotgun a wall hanger, if that. I advise you just pass on it.

  8. I just watched part 1 for the 1st and last time. Kevin Costner is a past master at dragging out a story. So many scenes that are not essential to the overall story. The audio clarity was good for most of the main actors but, the lesser actors spoke their lines without moving their mouths, I had no idea what they were saying. It seemed that it was filmed with a filter on the camera, there wasn't the bright colors. I bought it in Walmart for $5. My wife said that I can watch part 2 without her. I won't watch part 2 either, this DVD will be given away.

Costner has to learn to cut to the chase in his movies. I realize that this film was a mini series but, still..

You won't be teaching that turkey much! I don't bother watching most of his films.

  9. Well I will try all the advise I was about to use the bailing wire and duct tape.

The threads actually round over and then wear down, both in the receiver and the components. Repeatedly removing and reinstalling the barrel/magazine group from the receiver unnecessarily accelerates the wear.

  10. Watch the movie "Geronimo". Robert Duvall plays Al Seiber, chief of scouts and movie is terrific

While "Geronimo An American Legend" IS a great movie, the character, Al Sieber, portrayed by Robert Duval, is NOT accurately depicted.

  11. The only fix I know to "fix" the worn out threads is to solder the shotgun together at the threads. It's a tricky job. Duct tape ;-) prolly ain't gonna work. I believe that epoxy will eventually fail, if it works at all.

I would keep the shotgun for parts and get a "new" one that you have checked out thoroughly.

Let's see those pictures, to be sure.

    Edit

If the threads in the receiver are also worn out (very likely), then you're equally screwed, and a new mag tube will only delay the inevitable and the failure will reoccur when the receiver threads go. Also, the same half threads in the barrel/receiver component are likely failing as well.

Photos will help us confirm the above theories.
