  1. Unlikely. 36-foot sailboat, and the story's 6 years old.

Also, later in the story it mentions "the bay", not the gulf, but don't say which bay, so it could be fair-sized. They're in Texas, and as we all know, EVERTHING'S bigger in Texas. It also mentions they are anchoring in sixty feet of water, so it don't sound too far off shore.

  2. These days?

Midway is running a sale on some "Troy somebody-or-other 'CHOOT 'EM" mini mag hollow points. 300 round bulk pack for 24 dollars, which is 8 dollars a hundred.

Seems like the last time I bought Mini Mags they were 4, so 8 seems quite high to me, but I know prices have gone crazy.

    If anyone's interested.

  3. I got a sleeping Santa in a rocking chair. As he snores, the chair rocks harder until he ALMOST goes over backwards, his breath catches, he snorts, the chair goes forward and he starts the snoring/rocking cycle again.

Got a sleeping Santa in a bed, and as he snored the blanket fluttered from his exhales.

Got one one year and the other the next, and don't recall which was first. I assume it was a case of "GOT TO get him a Christmas present".

  4. About how far offshore can you be and a normal cell phone still work?

In the book the guy proposed and the girl called her folks to tell 'em, and I'm thinkin', "Bet there ain't a whole lot of cell towers out in the Gulf. Wonder if that phone would reach?"

Standard cell. Not satellite, not ship-to-shore.

    Thoughts?

  5. I don't have fresh, but my daughter went to India in October, and had a 5-hour layover in Frankfort. Brought me a Stollen from the airport, from some Dresden bakery that's been making Stollen since the 1600s.

    Pretty dang good, too.

  6. A few years ago someone on here was telling about German Christmas candies. I looked for them (he said that Aldis carried 'em. Was visiting Hazel that year, in Atlanta, and they have one, so I forced her to take me there) but could not find them. He had also spoken of Stollen, and I found one of them. Because of that, I now get three or four each year. Yummy.

Today I'm in a store, and they have a package of cookies. I had no idea what they were, but the name sounded German, so I took a chance.

    Pfeffernüsse

Oh My Goodness Gracious. They is GOOOOOOOOOD. About the size of an oreo, but maybe twice as thick. Dusted with powdered sugar. Don't know what the flavors are, but they sure is good.

Onliest problem is, there was only ten in the box, and they was three bucks. 30 cents for a cookie the size of an oreo?!?!?!? That offends my Scots soul. Not to mention my pocketbook.

Buuuutttt - they IS good. Try 'em if you ain't never. I think you'll like 'em.
